Kit car I guess... or a concept?
Japanese?
From what I know of this, it's a concept. But it's not Japanese.
Sbarro?
Sbarro had nothing to do with this.
Rinspeed?
And neither did Rinspeed.
Could it be a Hobbycar prototype?
No, it couldn't ;)
Porsche-ish wheels... german?
Yes, it is.
zender?
Not Zender.
This might sound stupid but: Wingho?
As far as I know, Wingho has never been German, so the answer to that question has to be... nope. :)
get through the German tuning scene: Treser?
Not a Treser.
And your choice of tactic could see you wasting quite a lot of time ;)
Michalak has designed weird stuff like this.
Yes, he has!
But he didn't design this...

According to this "hint" I guess it's from an 'official' make?
Is it Boxster-based?
Can't help a feeling that it has something to do with BMW. Am I getting somewhere with this?

It's not from a tuner, no.

I'd say you're getting quite far with this. It does indeed have something to do with BMW.
But it's a full-scale, fully functional prototype, right? No mock-up / static chassis?
Yes, it's fully functional.
By the powers invested in me my the creator of this site, I hereby pronounce this puzzle to be promoted.
>:(
OK - I get the point.
I don't stay angry for long.
;)
OK. This could be one of the craziest guesse I could imabgine but: being BMW-linked, could it have something to do with Veritas?
Not that I'm aware of.
Considering the fact that you aren't that frequently around anymore I hope I'm not too bold to ask you 2½ questions ;):
Was it a student's project and if you agree – was there at least a second, more sophisticated car?
Was it powered by a BMW bicycle engine?

Sorry 'motorcycle' I meant... :bag:
This was the winning project of a BMW young designers competition, the task was to use computer software an design a light car with motorcycle engine. The first prize, won by Tilo Klumpp, was to have a functional prototype built.
Wow, that's quite interisting! Thanks for solving this!
So its name is 1994/1995 BMW Sidecar?
Well, the name I had for it was BMW Fun Car, but as I can't really remember what my source for that name was, it seems that vdp has more or less nailed it, so I'm declaring the puzzle solved. Well done!
Any full pics of the car?
;D only a few: (click on thumbs to enlarge!)

Wow. How long have you had these?
I've searched the internet after vdp had given the right answer! There's a source where you can find all those pics together on one page.
Those images must have been uploaded at some point during the last year or so. Before that, I could find no reference to this car whatsoever on the web.
Quite a strange-looking machine - but appealing in its own weird way.
Thanks, mate! Great pics! Any idea of what engine it used?
BMW K100 motorcycle engine in the front. The red one is a 1:4 scale model.
