When: October 16, 1955
Where: Fairchild Air Force Base (Hagerstown)
Who: #3 - Phil Hill, Ferrari 750 Monza
Who: #60 - Sherwood Johnston, Jaguar D-Type

Any chance?

Paul Jaray

Very close!
Year + Cars + Drivers are correct.
The race is not.
Faksta, you can guess the event, that is locked for you till your next reply.
There is another interesting fact about this picture, 1 point to anyone who will find it.

woodinsight

Hmmm - I know the venue and date but will await Faksta's reply before responding.

What other point is there in this picture.
Phil Hill's Monza is shown winning the race from Sherwood Johnston's D-Type by the smallest margin possible to clinch the SCCA National Championship in 1955.

Maybe that is correct or perhaps not!

faksta

Thank you, woodinsight. I will take this option then.

Let's say it's Road America - 10th round of 1955 SCCA Championship. Hill indeed won from Johnston in that race.

Faksta & Woodinsight,

First off, thank you for replying in your posts.
The mission and or objective Woodinsight is to gather as much information, especially anything over and above this picture.

Other pictures of the national event etcetera, this is the only way we are ever going to finish the story of Harris and his machine.

The flagman is no other than Ben Harris.
He was nominated and voted to be the starter and an official at this race and ribbon Cutting ceromony, Ben was also a stock holder in Road America..
THE race, this is the inaugural  Road America Race in 1955.
Ben and Kimberly were the Chicago heads and officials.

We would believe that it was quite the honor for Ben as recognition for his time and monetary means spent.

As time goes on, we have found out that Ben was Highly involved in building the SCCA as we know it today, rules classes etcetera.
This is the 5th picture we have found with Ben being a organizer, official and flagman, he pretty much did a little of everything all OVER the whole country, let alone the Cuban and Bahama's races.

Mr Bill Green and two other archivists are sending us new information on Ben and his high involvement with the SCCA in infant years. They are items of documentation that we do not have, they are holding us in suspense, as they will not tell us what they are sending, said we will be surprised and delighted?

IF & WHEN we hit 30 strong points, we shall submit Ben for admission & vote into the SCCA Hall of Fame.
We Have 14 strong points now, this being one of them.
Truly, thank you for the replies and if anything else excists that you know of from the  inaugural race at Road America, please let us know>
Thank you,
JOHN
