Otto: Do you think Washington will be crowded? I only have Sunday and Monday - two Memorial Day weekend days for sightseeing as from Tuesday I'll be spending all of my time at the National Archive in College Park

I think it's likely to be crowded, especially around the war memorials near the mall. and near Arlington cemetery. You might also run into the President and his entourage in search of a photo opp, which brings all normal modes of transport (except feet) to a standstill.

I should think it's much colder here (UK) in summer than it is in Brazil in the autumn (or winter for that matter!)
You might feel at home in certain parts of southern Europe though!
