Well, "de la coupe de l'avenir" means "of the coupe of the future" so it may be only a generic name, but maybe they called it so.

Coupe de l'Avenir was a racing series in France from 1976 to 1990 for which ARC has also built cars

My source also reported an Arc 2000 SJ8 name for this car, the only street-legal version. Well done!

Projet - Etudes morphologique et technique - Réalisation Michel Faure

Alors âgé de 16 ans, Michel Faure, lycéen, très influencé par l'école du Bauhaus, trace les premières lignes de la Narval, avec pour seule motivation : la construire et la voir rouler.
Un désir intense, neuf, une esthétique de pureté, d'exactitude, de rapports commotionnants, allaient exciter les rouages mathématiques de son esprit : spectacle et cosmogonie.

A la différence des automobiles, qui cherchent à séduire par de vains arguments esthétiques, la Narval demeure sauvage, subversive. Tout dans son économie est tendue vers sa fin. Rien de superflu, pas de volonté de style, intemporelle, et, s'il vous plaît à son insu de lui trouver une qualité esthétique, c'est parce qu'au sein même de son socle, nous avons le sentiment qu'elle conserve une puissance concentrée.

Sur le circuit de Nogaro, le 23 Mai 1971, jour de la naissance de son fils Stephan, la Narval fait ses premiers tours de roue.
