I know what you meant, Dan.   For conversations sake and to chastise Karn for replying to my guess by saying this brand still was made today.......  ;)

In 1962 Imperial was its own marque.  It was tiered above Chrysler in model hierarchy and intended to compete with Cadillac and Lincoln.

I knew of the Imperial being a separate make, but the car was usually referred to as a "Chrysler Imperial" by most of the people I knew...my father retired from Chrysler in 1989, and i always followed the company's practices closely.  It was a separate entity from 1955-1970, then became a Chrysler Imperial again in '71...kinda confusing, and I'm sure the public noticed.  Maybe that's why sales were never so great.

1964-1966 Imperials were popular demolotion derby cars around here for awhile...a sad end for such a magnificent automobile.

'Imperial - a Product of the Chrysler Corporation' (as Imperial sales literature called it) may have not had any Chrysler badges, however it was designed, built and warrantied by Chrysler, a marque that still exists.

As it was positioned as a distinct division, I'll concede your point.

As a Mopar guy, I honestly thought I recognized this as an Imperial.  When you said no, I never went looking.  :-*

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to mess anyone up.

It is alright.  I was just explaining why I was giving you grief.
