Title: A couple of interesting cars from Allan L: Solved! Lagonda 11 and Rover 12
Post by: Allan L on February 28, 2007, 11:36:23 AM
Still trying to restore the balance after the yellow car, here are two for the price of one. Make and model for each of the foreground cars.
If you think there's a clue in the name of the file, Arthur is the tall elderly gent behind the front car: sadly he died last week.

Time for a clue: Both are marques that people have heard of. The front car's manufacturer amalgamated with one other, the successor to which is part of a major automotive empire. The red car's manufacturer was still in business a couple of years ago

Would that make it a Plymouth?   ???

Could be an Oldsmobile.

Ah, you are so right. Either that or it could be a Plymobile or an Oldsmouth!   :hah:

At one point, we had a Plodge. It was a Volare that got some Aspen parts.

Could be an Oldsmobile.

As I understand it Plymouth didn't start until 1928.
Oldsmobile did start early enough, but the radiator shape is quite different

so, not either of those.

Time to amend the clue: Both are marques that people have heard of. The front car's manufacturer amalgamated with one other, the successor to which was part of a major automotive empire which has just announced it's being sold. The red car's manufacturer was still in business a couple of years ago and some of its models are still being produced in the Far East.

Are they British, as in Morris and Rover?

Yes they are British.
Which are you saying is Morris and which Rover?

I'd call the green one Morris and the red Rover.  :P

Yes, that was what I had in mind

The red one is a Rover (1914 12 h.p.) but the other is not a Morris.

Austin?

Not an Austin

Am I alone in finding it hard to get a posting to work these days? This one gave five "server too busy" errors and then lost what I was trying to post when the sixth error happened.

It is still doing that: so far it has done it 4 times

Oh, wait, you said they are British...I recent Chrysler from my previous post...

I keep getting "You've already posted" messages when I haven't.

I have had that happen a few times at this board.  Usually, having lots of tabs open and switching between them seemed to contribute to the problem.

That seems to be the case frequently.

Aston Martin?
No, but you have the right idea.

I tried to post this reply before and failed. Difficult times we are in as I'm getting the "server too busy" error yet again and again and again and again and again and again. I've gone off, cooked and eaten dinner and will try again now.
That worked but I couldn't edit it so have had to re-post and delete the previous one.

Much more of this and I won't play any more :yuck:

Maybe an 11.9, 12.24, 20 or 30? I can't find pix of any.

I found an 11.9 but can't see it well enough to tell if there are differences.
