It is a Nash Metropolitan with a different grill.

It was actually the concept car for the Metropolitan. Designed by Pinin Farina.

Quote1954–59 Nash Metropolitan: Derived from the Nash NXI show car, the cute little "Metro" was a well-equipped automobile powered by a four-cylinder Austin engine. It was built in England and sold by Nash and Hudson dealers in America (the Hudson version had appropriate badging). Owners reported good fuel economy in the 27–39 mpg range. If you can get by with two seats, the Metropolitan is a highly collected car that you'll enjoy driving, especially when you drive past the gas station.

NOOOoooooooo!!!!! Please don't tell me that Pininfarina designed this car!  I know he had a strong working relationship with Nash and did a lot of cars for them, but not this one!!!  REALLY???   I thought the Brits designed this car at Austin and Nash just imported it.  Are you sure??? I've never seen it mentioned in any of my books on Pininfarina...

When I was four-five years old, my dad had a Metropolitan and even at that age I knew it looked strange because I always called it "The Funny Car".  I know small cars are much harder to design well, and this one has enough "Cuteness" factor to have developed a cult following today, but I normally do not associate "Cute" with Pininfarina... 'Beautiful' - Yes.  Elegant and Svelte, even, but not "Cute".
