Quite right: the wheels and tyres are inappropriate modern size and tread - there are good-looking (and performing) tyres available which would make it a much better-looking car.

Regarding the tires, these Chrysler owners want to win and the go up against the Bentley brutes--here's a link showing such an event.  Can't tell the treads, but it is more of a performance issue than looks, on the owners' part for certain.  I don't know the rules, regarding competitions and tires....
