Title: 20 Questions, 3rd Edition - Solved! Fiat X1/9
Post by: Otto Puzzell on April 10, 2008, 05:50:22 AM
Nope! No car pictures here. Just a variation on a theme that's already developed in some of our traditional, post-a-pic puzzles, wherein participants guess country of origin, designer, builder, etc.

So, here's how this one works. I've a particular make, model and model year of automobile in mind. I've chosen a relatively well-know automobile that most any casual automotive enthusiast from most any land could ID, if they saw it.

The puzzle will originate with 20 available points. As each guess is expended, a point will be deducted from that 20. The person who correctly identifies the make model and model year of this car will be awarded 20 points, minus the points deducted previous to his or her correct ID guess.

Who would like to begin the guessing?

So we're just randomly guessing? I could manage that. How about 1964 1/2 Mustang?

No, the idea is not to randomly guess.

As when playing 20 questions, start with a broad question (configuration or country of origin, for instance).

Not a Mustang.

To my estimate, we have now narrowed it down to about seven thousand three hundred and twelve possible cars.

Oops, that last entry was before I saw the hint about the 1970's
We are now down to about nine hundred possibilities.

Number of cylinders 4 or less?

My first guess would be a Fiat 124 Spyder, mainly because my brother has one

I would say @re beat me to it, but Karn did not respond to his (and my) suggestion of the Fiat X1/9. Is that it?

I agree - pieter deserved a point for narrowing it down so much. I would say that the X1/9 is more of an instantly recognisable classic than the 124 Spyder - but that's just me, and I'm just a bit biased :)
