This puzzle, though large in number, should be easier than some of the other recent matching puzzles posted. Most all of the cars are instantly recognizable by moderately knowledgeable auto enthusiasts. So, match the car's model name with the plane's nickname or the train's identifier. Simple as that. As the machine's are ID'd, I'll post the name under the picture. Oh, and to add a little bit of difficulty, some of the pictures' numbers might be hard to find.

Enjoy!  :)

You wanna be the man, you gotta Name That Car!

Well for a start No. 21 is a Mini Traveller and No. 35 is a Beech 17, in this case (being Navy) designated UC-43 Traveler (edited, no that's Army, should have said GB-2!)

I know another ten, but not as pairs (yet).
Sadly I know very few of the (US) cars, and military aeroplanes, particularly from the USofA are not my field either.

Here is a first batch. I hope you're not asking for the full name of the planes):
- 4 (Rolls-Royce Phantom) and 31 (MC Donnell FH1 Phantom)
- 15 (Plymouth Fury) and 23 (FJ Fury)
- 16 (Buick Wildcat) and 18 (Grumman Wildcat)

Another:
- 30 (Edsel Corsair-I think it's got Ranger wheelcovers by the way) and 20 (WWII Corsair)
- 36 (Mercury Comet) and 7 (De Havilland Comet)
- 43 (Studebaker Conestoga) and 2 (Budd Conestoga)
He Touched Me With His Noodly Appendage

Ray B.

And a last one (after all, I was just checking my mail before starting to work...)
- 1 (Pontiac Banshee) and 13 (Banshee)
- 39 (Plymouth Valiant) and 10 (Vultee Valiant)
The car # 9 shares its name with so many types of airplanes that I give up. And i can't tell a jet fighter from another.

actually 17 is the Phantom - you got No 13 as the Banshee later!

Ray B.

Oops! I saw so many planes that I got confused. And the Banshee is the 31, not the 13 in fact. I'll check for the Phantom and correct that if you agree. Thanks.

EDIT: As a matter of fact I really got mixed up: I corrected my former posts.

38 is a Grummon Duck and 32 is a DUKW (known as a Duck)

Ah! You see, that's where you're wrong. I consider myself to be more than a moderately knowledgeable auto enthusiast - but most of these cars are American and therefore not instantly recognizable to average European car nuts.

Anyway, I arrived late at this party, so most of the work was done :)

No. 28 is a Hillman Avenger
No. 42 is a Grumman Avenger (I think)

Allan L

This is what I think is the collected wisdom so far:

1 (Pontiac Banshee) and 13 (McDonnell Banshee) – Ray B.
2 (Budd Conestoga) and 43 (Studebaker Conestoga) - Ray B.
3  1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass and 27 Chance-Vought Cutlass  - Allan L. & Ray B.
4 (Rolls-Royce Phantom) and 31 (McDonnell FH1 Phantom) - Ray B.
5 is a Boeing 737 C40-A Clipper and 9 is a Packard Clipper - Allan L.
6 (V-150 Amphibious vehicle) and 44 (V-150 TGV) - Ray B.
7 (De Havilland Comet) and 36 (Mercury Comet) - Ray B.
8 (Dodge Dart Demon) and 17 (McDonnell Demon) - Ray B.
10 (Vultee Valiant) and 39 (Plymouth Valiant) - Ray B.
15 (Plymouth Fury) and 23 (North American FJ Fury) - Ray B.
16 (Buick Wildcat) and 18 (Grumman Wildcat) - Ray B.
19 could be a Ford Bronco and 25 is a Rockwell Bronco  - Allan L.
20 (Vought Corsair) and 30 (Edsel) - Ray B.
21 is a Mini Traveller and No. 35 is a Beech 17 Traveler - Allan L.
22 is a Sunbeam Tiger and 33 may be a Northrop Tiger  - Allan L.
26 Clan Crusader and 37 LTV Crusader  - Allan L.
28 is a Hillman Avenger and  42 is a Grumman Avenger - Neilshouse
32 is a DUKW (known as a Duck) and 38 is a Grummon Duck  - Allan L.

so that leaves 11, 12, 14, 24, 29, 34, 40 & 41 to either be identified or paired up.
I think!

Actually, 3 and 27 are to be credited to Allan L alone. I didn't spot the Olds Cutlass, he spotted the plane and guessed there should be an Olds. I just checked with my books.

Yes but I'd no idea which it was!

If 12 is a Pontiac Catalina it goes with 40 Consolidated PBY Catalina

Much as I said for me, both US cars and US military aeroplanes (sorry, airplanes!) not being my field, but with a little help . . . .

Maybe so. But Autopuzzles has enough to offer to anybody's taste, hasn't it? Old cars, new cars... I already told you, I am European too and in a nutshell I can't recognize most European cars and any post-1970 car except those I see in the street. So what? I concentrate on what I know best. And sometimes a little trip in unknown terrain is fun and can broaden one's horizons. See Allan !
