Title: SOLVED - Geo Quiz: A Variation 2.0 - by Arunas, DynaMike, ImpishGrin, Ray B and Allemano
Post by: @re on October 20, 2008, 11:24:52 AM
Time for another Geo Quiz. This one is of the variation kind:

The geographic locations are not the places where the cars are built. Instead, the names of the cars are linked to the names of the places.

So please, have a go: Geographic locations #1 to #12, cars A to L - link away!

And the cars:

And, just to put this straight: 2 points for correctly identifying a car AND a location - and pairing them. No points for just a car, or just a location - so if you find one or the other and decide to give your answer without knowing what it should be paired with, it will be of help to other puzzlers, but not to yourself ;)

I know what location 4 is and number 10, too, but can't match any of the cars....
Number 10 is the city coat of arms of a particular city I know. Is the car's name the same?  ???

location = particular city, island etc. or could it be also the name of a building, place, monument etc.?

Title: Re: Geo Quiz: A Variation 2.0
Post by: @re on October 21, 2008, 10:28:57 AM
Location = particular city, island etc. Not building, place, monument.

The coat of arms in #10 is indeed linked to a city. The name of the city is part of the name of the car.

I'm amazed how you guys seem to be in a terrible hurry to solve every puzzle! I only posted this a couple of days ago and already you say that you "definitely cannot find" the answers. Sometimes, answers have to be searched for, and sometimes it takes more than a day to do so - it's been my aim to make a difficult puzzle, that should not be solved in a day or two. But you're very eager to hear the answers, so I'll give you a couple:

1) The reflection in the pool is indeed the Washington Monument.

2) I've never heard of the city of Rochnin in France. Neither has Wikipedia.

That is a very interesting coincidence. But if you look closer, you'll see that those two coats of arms aren't exactly the same - and the colour doesn't match completely, either. That is because my picture is not of the coat of arms of Ronchin!

OK , car #D looks like an Aixam Scouty R, but it's RHD, and it seems that these are sold in UK as NICE (No Internal Combustion Engine; apparently with an electric engine instead of the 500 cc two-cylinder power plant). Location #9 is Nice on the Côte d'Azur in France.

That's the right car! But it is featured on several hundred web pages under the name Erre20, which obviously led ImpishGrin to draw this conclusion:

It's open to all ? If not, the point is for ImpishGrin... Location L: Buddhist Monastery in Puli, and the Hungarian microcar is a Puli as well...

Damn, I have been looking for any pictures of this microcar for some time and couldn't find any  :D

Yes - earlier I made it clear that if somebody wanted to spill the beans on something, they would be free to do so with the risk of losing the puzzle points. In this case, fame and glory go to ImpishGrin for guessing Hungary, but the two remaining points of this puzzle go to DynaMike, who made the connection.

Which gives this final list:

Location 1: M11 in the UK - goes with car F: 2007 BRM M-11 Way - Arunas
Location 2: Sebring International Raceway - goes with car E: 2008 Sebring Exalt - Arunas
Location 3: Agades/Agadez, Niger - goes with car B: 1990 Peugeot Agades 4x4 by Heuliez - Allemano
Location 4: Washington DC, goes with car I: 2003 DC Decign Ikoncept - ImpishGrin
Location 5: Liège, Belgium - goes with car H: 2006 Liege - DynaMike
Location 6: Chung Tai Chan Monastery, Puli, Taiwan - goes with car L: 1990s Puli - DynaMike
Location 7: Caroline Island - goes with car G: 2004 Leblanc Caroline GTR - Arunas
Location 8: Gulf Coast - goes with car A: 2007 Gulf Coast Vitesse Cabrio - Arunas
Location 9: Nice, France - goes with car D: 2006 NICE Mega City - DynaMike
Location 10: Erre, Nord, France - goes with car K: 2000s Lancia Delta Integrale Erre20 Limited by Riccardo Errani - ImpishGrin
Location 11: Bayern, Germany - goes with car J: 2006 Duesen Bayern Agnes - Ray B
Location 12: Daytona Beach, Florida - goes with car C: 1980 Daytona Moya - Arunas

Congratulations! This puzzle is hereby solved and moved to the nursery home.

Were awarded during the time of the puzzle.

Is that so? Then I must have  been not given points for some 4 other solved puzzles. Hmpf... Time to think about some points-tracking sytem ;)

In this case, I chose to do it that way. If you look back on the answers I've given, I've stated that "you have been awarded two points" all along, as I added the points when I was answering.

Oh well, not the first points I can't find :D I think I'm already missing 7 or so points. But I'm not gonna get too excited about it, after all it's just for fun :)

Well I have been watching my points from the start of this puzzle waiting for ten points to be added as soon as it is over.. Your "two points awarded" I interpretated as "two point for the answer once the puzzle is finished" and really didn't notice any points for any correct answer... Sorry I may be wrong but.......
