Do you know what this car is called?

Thanks for looking and good luck with your guesses.

Otto Puzzell

Looks a bit like an Alice-Cooper.
You wanna be the man, you gotta Name That Car!

neilshouse

It's not a Bangert or anything to do with Alice Cooper.

shamrock

east european , 50s skoda based special competing in a hillclimb .

neilshouse

Not a Skoda, and as far as I know it's got nothing to do with Eastern Europe.

I don't know a great deal about this car, only it's name and location at the time the picture was taken.

I don't think it is a Belgian plate.

Where the photo was taken is a very long way from Belgium.

neilshouse

Moved to the professionals!

Arunas

neilshouse

Not a Mistral.

Its engine is from a very well known manufacturer, and the car, I assume is a one off special named after it's builder.

Otto Puzzell

Them Zealanders like their big Chevy motors. Is it a Chevrolet V8 - perhaps from a Corvette?

neilshouse

Not a Chevrolet engine, and not a V8.

neilshouse

Not Ferrari engined, you are in the right continent though.

Allan L

Quite a tall engine, from the box on the bonnet, but as that box has no air intake it's probably not the Bristol engine that I normally associate with being tall.
Possibly an XK Jaguar engine - the wheels look a bit like Jag wheels.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

neilshouse

It has got a Jaguar engine!

Allan L

"Phone-a-friend" time (well, e-mail)!

Bagnall-Jaguar

"always a scrffy beast" according to the friend that I asked!

He also said it was at Houghton Bay hillclimb, Wellington, 4 April 1964

neilshouse

That's the one, well done, correct on all counts.
