dang. no, i mean really  ;D as being a fresh (and rather unsuccessful) so-called expert, i dunno wether i should award a point for that or not, being a repost? or should we forget about my fail alltogether?  :P anyway, i'm going back to my evil headquarters for a challenge that will last more than couple of seconds... looks like that's bigger challenge to my than to you!

No offese, but your timing was impressive!
The Mercury by Spohn was solved 1 month ago, but you post this 7 minutes after Mr. StillOutThere passed by with what seems to be the solution.
But are we sure they are the same car? I don't think...

I actually had this one lined up as well to post once the other source had died down a bit and wasn't so fresh anymore, so if Ultra hadn't gotten to it within a minute (wow!) I would've been next in line.  ;D

They are 4 different models, probably only in details, but no one of these is like the others.
I couldn't find other pics of this Veritas, are there any?
(BTW since it's not a repost, Ultra deserves the point)

There are also 2 Ford convertibles and a Lincoln with the same design: I have only the front view, but the tailfins seem like these.

Spohn Veritas BMW Cabriolet (1949)

That's right, yes.
It's unmistakeably by Spohn (I wonder if they bought a job-lot of those fins?!) so tracing it would be easy as long as you know what Spohn creations look like.

The puzzle car was recently sold, as past of the Hartungs Museum liquidation. There is a sub-culture of conspiracy theorists those who believe that Harley Earl copied this design for the Buick Le Sabre show car.

After all it's a '49 Veritas, and the LeSabre debuted in '51, right?  ;)

The Veritas base car is from 1949. But when were the modifications done by Spohn?

It seems Sphon built a run of Le Sabre-inspired cars in the 1950's, on chassis from a variety of makes. I'm not sure that there is a definitive work that catalogs the years they were completed.

And to set the record straight, I am not one of those conspiracy theorists.  ;D

More has been learned about Veritas Spohn Customs.  Two were built!  This is according to Lieutenant Arthur S. Cooper who was a co-owner of one of the cars and who unfortunately passed away just last month.

The subject car, originally owned by Cooper and his USAF pilot buddy, C.F. Bauer, was originally monotone Turquoise in color and had a full zebra skin interior installed at these owner's specification after a rest and relaxation hunting trip from Germany to Africa netted them several skins.  Photographic proof attached and evidence is still present in the car though the vast majority has been replaced.   Current owner of this car is the Hartung auction buyer, Dale Walksler and is being concours shown in barn find condition as well as on display at his South Carolina business.   The car has been brought up to running /driving condition.

According to Cooper they bought the car after witnessing the original Spohn livery on the Veritas Scorpion be destroyed during race competition by a roll over accident.

The second Veritas Spohn Custom was constructed in largely similar dimensions but the circumstances, colors and other details are not clear as yet and now may never be known.
