Is it perchance a prewar Wanderer rather than a DKW ?
Duncan Rollo

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

Otto Puzzell

It is a DKW, but one that had been modified for a different use than normal. Or so said the person who posted this picture elsewhere on the intraweb.

Complete shot in the dark...the radiator grill is missing so might this be an electric powered DKW?

Otto Puzzell

No - it was not blocked because it didn't need flow, but to specifically prevent it.

Because of a sort of speed record attempt?

Otto Puzzell

No, this thing was actually slow, compared to the road speed of an ordinary DKW

Otto Puzzell

Yes!

You have the exclusive on this one for 48 hours. I usually say 24 hours, but this one might prove quite elusive.

It is a modified DKW body on a VW Schwimmwagen frame ( my source said Kubelwagen, but this one is not amphibious... ) ; this job was done by Deel, a coachbuilder from Dresden ( former East Germany )

I have it as build by a Dresden coachbuilder named Deele, although I couldn't find anything more about him, so the name may be spelt differently.

No visible puzzle pic - and I think it should be "Deele":
