Ford Cosworth DFV?
NO
No need to yell... ;)
Well it looks like a 70's normally aspirated V8, and judging by the exhaust is either an F1 or other single seater installation.
Have I got the correct racing formula?
You are correct in the fact that it is a V8 ;) and that it is normally aspired, but it is a little bit older than the seventies.
This engine was not powerful enough to compete in F1. As far as I know it was not installed in a single seater.
Let's start from the beggining: is it Italian?
Not Italian.
Wait, wait, wait... american flathead?
:shakehead:
Martin V8?
( which was a very compact V8 based on ford X-flow or pre-X-flow parts, I believe )
The reason I think if might be one is that the heads do not look like they are offset from eachother...
:shakehead:
European engine?

Looks like a racing engine. British?
Not British but indeed a racing engine.
German then?
:shakehead:
