Well, "Steamy Windows" is a car song, but it doesn't mention any make's name.

"Bare Necessities" speaks of a limousine and "a little Jag". I don't know if that's enough.

I'll give you a point for that. Mr White must have been diggin' ZZ Top's Greatest Hits when he recorded that one. I always liked his only hit, though it had nothing to do with cars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkdcUa-pQlg

Chomp, chomp-chomp.

Further, there are a whole lotta artists already named, and other than Rocket 88 and your most recent guess, not a lot of songs have been added to the mix.

The only one I find (searching by titles only) would be a song called "Flat Tyre", cut by the Del-Vikings.

Correct - they also recorded on the Mercury label for much of their career. ;D

I know it ain't easy, but it's a pity to leave a nice puzzle like this unattended.
What about some clues?

By the way, can you fill the name of Tuner #11 in your list? He's been found in reply #49

Done, and done.

I trust you find the clues helpful - or maddening!  ;D

Ray B.

They are maddening for sure. But without them I had found that car #21 is a 1923 Star, and tuner # 15 should be Edwin Starr.

I guess that #12 is the dash of a 1966 AMC Rambler.
Could #17 be the 1960's Cambridge group "The Ramblers" (I don't even dare imagine how many bands are called "The Ramblers" or "The whatever... Ramblers"

A Classic solution by Ray B!

You right, a Rambler Classic, as Tuners#22, The Classics IV.
Only 4 pairs left. Piece of cake. Should take about 6 months.

Tuners #34 are Gladys Knight and the Pips, (the only clue I understood) and Car #27 is a Willys-Knight, ca. 1923

Car #7 is a DeDion-Bouton armored car, to be paired with Tuners #17, Dion (DiMucci) and the Belmonts.
I don't know if this will be accepted, but Dion's got one car-related song: "Drive all night".

Car #2 is a 1902 Knox "Old Porcupine" and Tuner #31 should be Buddy Knox.

Finally, a bit of luck and a bit of hard work did it, but I have no idea for the last two.

Yes, yes and yes!

I believe it's an '04 Knox (but i wasn't asking for the year, so no worries.). #31 is somebody other than your guess.

Damn', damn' and damn'. #31 being a  close lookalike to Buddy Knox, I persuaded myself it was him. But when you don't find the same photo, you should worry.
As for the car, I found it (same license plate) as a 1902, but on a probably less relaiable source.

I get mad not being able to finish this one.
In the meantime, are there still points to win for car related songs, even by tuners identified by others?  I've got a few....

Well, I have a nice one (rather gloomy in fact) for J.Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers: Last Kiss.

Well, where, oh, where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to Heaven so I got to be good
So that I can see my baby when I leave
This world.

We were out on a date in my daddy's car.
We hadn't driven very far.
There in the road, straight ahead,
A car was stalled. The engine was dead.
I couldn't stop so I swerved to the right.
I'll never forget the sound that night;
The cryin' tires, the bustin' glass,
The painful scream that I
Heard last.

Well, when I woke up, the rain was pourin' down.
There were people standing all around.
Somethin' warm running in my eyes,
But I found my baby somehow that night.
I raised her head and then she smiled and said,
"Hold me, darling, for a little while."
I held her close. I kissed her our last kiss.

As a matter of fact, I could find no other, but it's a good one, and my 4000th post.

Hell, I kept searching for another Knox and didn't even check his own website! He's not in picture #31 but in #20 !

so Car #2 (1904 Knox) goes with Tuner #20 (Buddy Knox)

now is car #5 a Amherst Two-in-One?
I can't find the exact picture but it does look like one.

And if not an Amherst, keeping with canadian cars, a Galt?

And now for the coup de grace:
Car #5 a 1911 Stafford automobile, and Tuner #31, Terry Stafford. And who's driving the car? Harry Truman himself.

Well, Otto, my "Horsepower" puzzle has been called "insanely difficult". I think it was nothing compared to this one. For instance I had never heard of Terry Stafford (who apparently recorded only one EP) or the Stafford automobile. Do you allow me to challenge you on your own ground, one of these days, with a Cars and Tuners of my own?

EDIT: I do not erase what I wrote above so everyone can judge of my ignorance; Terry Stafford not only recorded more than one EP, but he sold this EP at one million copies.

Wow - you are good! Please enjoy Mr. Stafford's biggest hit from the 1960's, as you work out the last pairing.
