Know who it is ?

If you do, it will earn you one point.
Now, if you know who this man is, there is something wrong, or at least weird, in this picture. Something that would be obvious if you saw it uncropped.
What is it? Another point for this.

A bit like John Cobb, but I don't think it's him.

Never seen a photo of him without a tie!

It is indeed John Cobb, as Allan L suggested but, even given his chance, refused to confirm on the basis that he had never seen a picture of him without a tie. Well, there is always a first time. We do recognize here the stubbornness of youth.
So , who's got the point? Shamrock, logically?
The second question is what (the tie issue excepted) seems weird in this picture?
Another point at stake.

I believe Allan's answer was akin to "I'm not sure it's John Cobb", or, "I suspect it's John Cobb, but I have doubts". Either one of those is as solid an answer as if somebody had guessed "John Cobb?" - which would surely been judged as correct.

Just my opinion :)
You wanna be the man, you gotta Name That Car!

Allan L

The real question that Ray posed is "what's wrong with the picture" and (aside from the sloppy dressing!) it seems to be a small car that he's in - and he was associated with big cars (10½ litre Delage, 24 litre Napier-Railton and of course the 48 litre Railton Mobil Special).
He did race some smaller cars, such as MGs but this doesn't look like that.
It's got a tax disc holder, so it's not a boat (and Crusader was much more modern-looking.
As I approach the score for promotion to "Pro" status, I get less keen on gaining points, so Shamrock is welcome . . .

For the sake of nitpicking, I'll say Allan added "but i don't think so" to his first answer. So I tried to obtain a clearer answer and was about to give him the point, but he kind of deterred me (but amused me) by his second reply with the tie. A kind of answer Plato would have had a lot to say about.

But you're right about the small car, Allan. A car we've already had several times in the solved puzzles.... And maybe the fact that Cobb didn't wear a tie for this picture has some significance. Locked for you 72 hours (I may have made up my mind about that first point then).

EDIT: I may even NOT give you any points for both answers, if you like. There's nothing wrong with a man competing just for glory's sake!

Is he in a boat perchance?

Looking at the proportions, I'd say a Rytecraft.
EDIT: I do say Rytecraft.

Don't you find this picture humorous? To bad he had forgotten his tie!

One point each, as said:
One to Paul for the car.
One to shamrock for the man.
One to Allan because he stayed at 200 too long.
