Doesn't look like the car for everyday use, but did it actually race? Or am I mistaken with its purpose?

Yes, this is a bit of a specialized breed - or should I say hybrid?

(no - not gas/electric, but hybrid in the animal husbandry sense of the word)

Engine swap you mean? That big bonnet so much reminds me of the one on Fiat S76, so maybe that's the engine used?

You are thinking along the right path, but no Fiat engine here.

By the way, that grille also looks very Mercedes like. Would it lead to something?

To the best of my knowledge, there are no Isotta-Fraschini mechanical components in this car.

This car is a sporty Buick Abadal-Race, which was popularly known as the ABADAL CENTELLA.

In 1917 this vehicle was mounted on a standard car with 4 cylinders and a displacement of 3,600 cc of Abadal-Buick

Subsequently, in 1919 the car was mounted on a special car with 6 cylinder, 3 carburetors, of 3,965 cc, was souped up reaches 4782 cc
