Ooops, we did not read carefully what this puzzle is about. So it looks like a dirt track from the mid-1920s in Europe, probably UK?

They don't look very happy, so I suppose that whatever it was that they were trying to do, they didn't manage to do it.

To my knowledge, the activity that took place here was completed. I have no explanation for their dour expressions - perhaps it was pre-event jitters, or post-event fatigue.

From the environment I'd place this event to somewhere in USA. I'd say something interesting took place here, at the left an early 1910s racecar is visible, while the 3-wheeler at the center is from the 1920s or so.
