The vehicle was created on the game show ' Panic Mechanics ' hosted by the DJ Trevor Nelson. Each show pitted two teams against each other to create a specialist vehicle based on a more mundane vehicle. The teams were given two identical statrter vehicles and £2000 to create that specific weeks goal. The vehicle in this puzzle started out as a Daimler Hearse, with the aim being to create a Dune Racer. Other shows featured Transit vans into rally racers, Reliant Rialtos into dragsters, Escort vans into gravity racers, Minis into minibuses, Flatpack VW Beetle and Range Rovers into Nascar Style racers.

Now that's what I call a complete answer!  It is indeed a Daimler DS420-based Dune Buggy racer made by Andy Saunders for the 'Panic Mechanics' TV show.  Well done.

I'll have to see if I can find that on DVD. Sounds like "Junkyard Wars" for car guys.
