Title: Another Silly Puzzle
Post by: Otto Puzzell on October 07, 2007, 11:08:43 AM
...once again, a "Match Game"

Within the following selection of pictures, each picture is related somehow to at least one other picture. Your job is to make as many matches as possible.

Throw Z into the Rocket category too.

If one had the time, he or she could make a stream-of-consciousness connection that loops through all of the pictures posted.

Four more:
25 and K: GM Futurliner "Magic Bus" and the Who's Magic Bus
15, G and T: A Chrysler, a gargoyle on the Chrysler building, and a Chrysler building head ornament (I don't dare call it a hat)
15 and F: a Chrysler Cordoba and a Seat Cordoba
Y and G: a "hawk" gargoyle and a Humber Hawk

10/08: Oops! I mistook a Jowett for a Humber! I cancel y and G.

Another one, maybe:
28 and X: the lunar Rover and a dog whose name might well be Rover. I won't try to point  another Rover, on account of my poor knowledge of British cars.

Then there's B and BB - Chebby Van - and that's alright by me, for a double whammy. One for the obvious Chebby Van reference and two, that particular song, and that particular van, both stink to high heaven. Yuck.

I think you mean "D", don't you? "B" is no Chevy.

If I claim 'typo', would anybody believe me?

Seriously, no automobile ever recorded a hit 70's song, did it? Sammy Johns folks, it was Sammy Johns! ... Aw come on people... smile on your brother...

Dang.

...grumble... just because I'm wrong most of the time doesn't mean that I can't make an honest mistake on occasion...

0 (zero, not "O") is a Herkimer Battle Jitney from the movie "Mystery Men". Whether it was a one-off by the prop department or based on an actual 50's military surplus transport is being debated here:

http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2007/07/18/herkimer-battle-jitney-what-and-where-is-it/

I vote for prop one-off at this point.

Note that I haven't linked it to any other picture, I'm just throwin' out what I know. Because that's how I roll.

The more that's appearing, the more this does become a stream of consciousness...

Y and 19 - Jowett Jupiter and Jupiter II, which relates to 2 - Lost in Space actor  Billy Mumy and Robot B9  which relates to M - Subaru Tribeca B9 which relates to 11 Oscar Meyer Wiener because it'a a giant phallus and the grille of the B9 has been likened to a giant vagi... errrm.... perhaps it's best not to link those last two.  :-[

R is Fenway's Green Monster, presumably linked with the incredible hulk (C). I'll leave it to others to tie those two back to automobilia somehow.

P is Doctor Who's Who Mobile...which links back the the Who's Magic bus I'd say.

7 is the garbage scow from "Quark", which links to the garbage truck (H), which links to the Delorean (Q), which is a piece of garbage.

Okay, so that last link needs work.
Title: Re: Another Silly Puzzle

The automobile tie into the Hulk and Fenway Park is number 6: Art Arfons Green Monster, a jet powered drag car. Arfons was known as a Junk Yard Genius, tying into the garbage trucks named above. He competed for the land speed record against Craig Breedlove who had an AMC AMX named in his honor which was based upon a shortened AMC Javelin (A) that ties to the other Javelins. Another competitor for the land speed record was the Budweiser Rocket car, (18) that joins the other Jowetts and rockets. The mastermind behind the Budweiser Rocket car was Hal Needham, who, among other things appeared in a Star Trek Episode (7)  and directed the Cannonball Run which starred Burt Reynolds who also did Gumball 3000, a garbage (H) (7) attempt at recreating the original Gumball Rally (3) and (A) and (BB) and... and... I'm spent.

Well, I proposed those earlier but never had an answer. Another try maybe ?

1, 6 and 18: Oldsmobile rocket V8, two rocket cars or dragsters.
0 and 25. I guess 0 is the same GM bus, modified for the movie, or an inspired replica.
8 and 23: Peugeot Eclipse and whatever it is: retractable hardotps
25 and K: GM Futurliner "Magic Bus" and the Who's Magic Bus
15, G and T: A Chrysler, a gargoyle on the Chrysler building, and a Chrysler building head ornament (I don't dare call it a hat)
15 and F: a Chrysler Cordoba and a Seat Cordoba
28 and X: the lunar Rover and a dog whose name might well be Rover. I won't try to point  another Rover, on account of my poor knowledge of British cars.

By the way: with 7 puzzles solved, how come I'm still a rookie ?

In T, the man wearing the hat is William Van Alen, the architect of the Chrysler building. So T is also connected with BB, the Chevy van.
I don't know how you can keep track of all the possibilities and answers on a puzzle like this.
I go see another one now, because not only my eyes but my brain hurts...

Aw, c'mon - you can do it!
I Can? It's a job for Albert Einstein. And I'd say you're the one who's got the worst part, giving the answers, awarding the points and tying all the strings together (see, you forgot to award me the points for the connections made 2 posts above).

But I'll make an effort at identfying stuff, but can make no connections.
13 is Isom Dart, I think, a rustler that was killed by Tom Horn (yet I can find no Dart in the cars). And 12 is a Dual Ghia, which could possibly connect it to the Chrysler Cordoba and the Chrysler building.

4 and O:  Captain Oliver Harmon "Spearchucker" Jones (from M*A*S*H) was a college javelin thrower and the Jowett Javelin (both javelin related)

These next two were connected before, but to complete the path (going up from 13):

13  (Moses Fleetwood Walker) and B (Cadillac Fleetwood)
B (Cadillac Fleetwood) and N (Mick Fleetwood)

...but this one should be new (to finish the connection):

N (Mick Fleetwood) should tie to K (Who's Magic Bus) (both musicians or bands)

11 (Brooks Stevens' Wienermobile) and 10 (Brooks Stevens' 1937 Packard 120) (both designed by Brooks Stevens)

10 (Brooks Stevens' Packard 120) and 20 (1949 Packard Fastback) (both Packards)

Then 12 (Dual Ghia) must fit in between I (Chrysler Imperial Dual windshield) ("Dual" in the name) and 15 (Chrysler Cordoba) (both Chrysler).

I had to fill in the map by hand, but it made all the difference.   :faint:

These next two were connected before, but to complete the path (going up from 13):

13  (Moses Fleetwood Walker) and B (Cadillac Fleetwood)
B (Cadillac Fleetwood) and N (Mick Fleetwood)

...but this one should be new (to finish the connection):

N (Mick Fleetwood) should tie to K (Who's Magic Bus) (both musicians or bands)

Good!

...are connected through 17 (a Hispano Corrocera custom coach, acquired by Tata/Rover)?

No...

I've always loved this one...
Can you please list the unidentified pics? Just letter and numbers...I tried to find it back but probably you keep note of them.

Added to Page 1 (next to the pictures)

And 5 (The Irish Rovers) is connected in between 22 (Tata City Rover) and X (Rover) (all are Rovers)

And 3 looks like Keith Moon's Bucket T (or one similar to it) which would connect it to K (Who's Magic Bus).

(Either that or it's the Who's cover of Jan and Dean's "Bucket T".  And since it doesn't look like Moon's actual Bucket T, it must be the song.)

So then V is Sammy Packard of NASCAR fame, and he's connected to D, Sammy Johns (both named "Sammy")...

...and he's connected to 10, Brooks Stevens Packard (both are  "Packards")

...and the final piece would be connecting 16 to Q, the DeLorean.

I assume that it's a stainless steel car, built with questionable styling and possibly poor attention to detail, probably with an anemic engine not befitting its looks.  And just because you can build it doesn't mean you should.

But I'm still trying to figure out 16...    ;)

Great puzzle!

Yes! (OK - ti's not Moon's T, but there is a Who song by the same name, for which this car suffices).

Points have been added; I'll update the map over the weekend.
