Sorry Hugo, it's three misses. You're not completely off though: let's say you recognized which one of the Big Three build each car. And for one of them you got the year right.

Indeed, and I wonder how come no one found it before. The Nashes of this era were about the only cars whose front seat backrests could be lowered, thus transforming the car into a large bed.
For this reason, the Nash had a very, very bad reputation with fathers of teenage daughters.

12, 14 and 18 are correct. 07 is a 1958 Buick, but a Roadmaster, and not a Limited according to the brochure where this photo comes from. I was going to let you search some more when I saw that they used the exact same photograph for both cars, with just a slight change of color: grey for the Roadmaster, blue for the Limited.

Only 5 more to go. Not the easiest ones, I concede.

Two more Fords in the bunch? #05 looks like a 1934 V8 De Luxe Tudor, #15 could be a 1940 Opera Coupe.

#5: Right make, close year and model name, but only close. You're so good that I will ask you to give me both. Locked for you 72 hours.
#15: Spot on. The exact name was Business Coupe, but let's not be too choosy.

There is a beginning to anything, knightfan: you haven't scored your first point yet, but you maybe on the way to it.

Ray B.  i am getting PM's from knightfan as he is looking for this thread.   Any chance you will move it to somewhere he can see it?

Sorry Charlie, don't you think it's a bit of an odd procedure to have a puzzler writing a PM to YOU in order to have another member downgrade a puzzle?

I do that and next you will have hundreds of PMs from pros asking you to coax us to upgrade our puzzles so that they can have a shot at it before rookies and experts solve them.
Didn't I repeatedly heard you tell us that being a feature writer was the most enviable status? I suggest that an article about ... let's see.... Chevy Monte-Carlos would do the trick.

I don't think he PM'd Ultra to make such a request. Knightfan was gone from the site for some time (he wrote in another thread about an operation he was having), and couldn't find the puzzle.

Oh, didn't know that! Sorry for him, and I hope all went well.
I didn't know also that Rookies and Experts couldn't actually SEE this section. I thought that they could see it but not ANSWER, as Pros can see but not answer the Rookie puzzles.

Whynot? But now knightfan (a rookie) can, as you wrote elsewhere... weird!

Quote from: Ray B. on April 04, 2009, 03:07:03 AMAll yours wild guesses are wrong, but with #7 you've got at least the year right. The make is wrong (and I'll ask make and model for this one) but, I'm feeling generous today, you got the right big three.

Well, I KNEW it was a GM ... no doubt about that.  That design, at least to me, is UNMISTAKABLY...GM.  I also knew it wasn't the Impala, because of pics I remember of my Dad's former '58 Impala.  I SHOULD have stated my 2nd guess, which was, believe it or not, Buick, but sadly, I didn't.  I knew it wasn't Cadillac ... just didn't look "luxurious" enough.  So, my guesses then fell between Buick and Oldsmobile ... and, for some reason, I kept leaning toward Buick.  Sure wish I had mentioned that now ... ah, well.  Someday I'll get a point around here ;).  LOL!

Actually, it wasn't odd to me.  First, I've met Ultra in person, so I felt comfortable PMing him, since I'm new here.  Second, at the time I was online (late night, just like tonight), I saw that Ultra was online, too.  So, I thought maybe I'd PM him to see if he knew what had happened to the thread, since I couldn't see it ... and really wanted to know what these were!  It was AFTER I sent the PM to him that I noticed he no longer was online.

Sorry for the confusion ... and, as I'm sure Charlie will attest to, it wasn't my intention to ruffle any feathers or go against protocol here.....

Don't give up, guys, the end is near. A bit of help.
- #4: a very low production car, but very famous, now and in its time.
- # 6: This car didn't come, of course, with a factory built ironing board. Its owner is famous for equipping it with one, among many other amenities.
- #13: I am aware that an ashtray is a very small clue when it comes to identify a car. Would a radio help?

Wait a minute.   That name on that radio ... isn't that from a Buick?  If so ... darned if I know what model Buick, though :(.

Hey, knightfan, you're on your way to earn your first point, as this IS A BUICK !
As I know you don't come around too often, Back seat drivers #13 is locked for you for onre month. I am only asking for the year of this Buick, and as you have a glimpse of the its dashboard, it shouldn't be too hard.

*grimaces*

Well ... I certainly appreciate you locking it for me, Ray ... but ... danged if I know what year.  I'm guessing a 1950s Buick, 1955, perhaps?

*pauses*

Course, I'm not all that good with the 50s cars, so I'm guessing my guess is wrong :(.

Very close: It's not 1955 (see picture below) but 1954, and the radios are very close. So I'm giving you the point and we'll avoid beating around the bush, like:
- Close! You're just one year wrong...
- 1956 maybe?
- Nooooooo.... Look the other way around....
- Oh, I see! 1954!

But you'll have to wait until this group puzzle is completely solved to get it.
