As far as I know it's a normal internal combustion engine. You're right about it looking North American, but I honestly don't know. I remember finding the pictures on an English website, where it was for sale in the UK - I think! I wish I'd saved some more information about it now

anyway, perhaps another view will help?

'caliber' does relate directly to the non-automotive product that shares the name, however.....
