Title: GTC #50 SOLVED: Stile Bertone Younique (Ghost) BMW Solved by Allemano!
Post by: DHoffmann on September 20, 2008, 01:26:55 PM
For my 50th puzzle, a rather beautiful vehicle.

1 point for the correct answer. A potential 1 extra point for extra information.

Good luck!

European?
As far as I'm aware. And I do know what I believe to be the correct name, but not much else.

Hmm... Very interesting..
1) Is this car still available?
2) Is the manufacturer (You think has made this car) still active?
3) Is it a one-off?

Nice tactic going to other forums and seeing if anyone else knows it. there.  ;D

Yes I have more images, one of which I will share now, but remember that this is still a puzzle which I know the answer to. Not giving too much away.  ;)

Owner's the builder apparently...

It really is a beauty.

The most I can help you is that because the owner built it, and the owner lives in Switzerland, it's Swiss? I don't know the actual country of build though, this is just speculation.

This is all that I have on the car.

'According to him it is a unique, which is the owner alone has built. On the question of what basis it is the owner replied that no other car serves as a base.'

Looks like a cross between the new electric Lightning sports car and a Honda S2000 - but the Swiss plates don't quite fit into the equation anywhere...

I'll just repeat this, as this is all the information I have regarding the build.
'According to him it is a unique, which is the owner alone has built. On the question of what basis it is the owner replied that no other car serves as a base.'

Basically, none of the 'based on' or 'looks like' guesses are right...
Title: Re: GTC #50
Post by: Otto Puzzell on September 26, 2008, 10:04:45 AM
I'm suggesting the car likely is based on some bits from elsewhere, and likely much more than just some bits.

I was not proffering a guess as to it's moniker.
Title: Re: GTC #50

I'd say that a BMW Z8 with this car's rear would be almost perfect.

I've got 2 more pics for this, don't know if able to post them...where I found it they say it is a Wiesman, but in the pic you can see a Carlsson logo, I'm afraid I can't visit that site from here....

Swiss tuning company Dähler? (cooperates with Hartge, Wiesmann and Carlsson)

four reasons for my guess:

1. Hartge rims
2. Carlsson logo in the garage
3. Wiesmann chassis (?)
4. Swiss number plate

To the contrary - many of the old puzzles are savored by their poster, and those who enjoy a prolonged hunt. Once the solution is found, and the cork is popped, they are enjoyed by both.

I do believe you are correct, this appears to be a better answer than what I had, and having found the document you're referring to I think that's a lot more accurate than mine.

I had this under two names, Unique Ghost was the one I was after. The other was 'Wiesmann Unique Ghost', which was posted on a website that did not allow 'Unique Ghost' as the name because of software, so it was entered as Wiesmann. According to the poster, it had nothing to do with Wiesmann, which is my reason behind denying Wiesmann involvement. I'm guessing that because the name was transferred orally to the photographer, he posted it as 'Unique' rather than 'Younique', which of course would sound the same.

The poster of the images said that no car serves as this base, but evidently a BMW engine does power it. I'm guessing this means that no particular BMW served as this car's donor, just an engine did. Much like Wiesmann really.

I shared all the information I had, I know it was sparse but it was the best I could do, and I have great admiration to Allemano for helping me to solve this too. I think this one's worth 2 points by now, well earned!

After googling "Unique Ghost" I've found it on a German forum where I'm a member, too.
Unfortunately the particular topic is locked for any reason and I can't get any additional information.
The man who disclosed the mystery claimed he knows the owner of the car and that it was custom made by that person.

I've send an email to one of my pen-friends who is an absolute Bertone expert.
He's in touch with STILE BERTONE's headquarter and I hope he definetely will bring the car's identity to light!

I would be amongst those greatly appreciative of any more information your friend may potentially be able to bring forth about this beauty.

Here's the image that has been brought up thanks to Allemano's source.

I have a Stile Bertone PDF (still available I guess!) showing the car as well, but I'm still not 100% sure. I've asked a friend to contact the inner circle of Stile Bertone, but there was never a definite confirmation.
