AKA - Pro's and Feature Writers Friday Fun(?) Artist and Car (puzzle)
This artist is relatively obscure, but his work has been mentioned in another puzzle solved in the last 1/2 dozen months. He was ultimately not associated with that puzzle, but could have been inspired by it. ;)
So, who is he, and what's the connection?
One of the various wrong guessed illustrators?
No sir. He was not guessed as a possible puzzle solution, but one of his works was mentioned in a non-guess reply to puzzle that was not of the Art & Cars variety.
Open to all
Yet another recently-solved puzzle could make this connection easy.
Dear friends, would those of you who know what this is all about please raise your hands?
Another puzzle - and another clue - have appeared here within the last week.
Instead of searching clues and mentions in other puzzles, maybe I'd better keep asking for his trade.
Musician?
Yes!
Relief! I felt tempted to analyze the pile of clues posted above, but I fortunately renounced before they lock me up with a straightjacket.
More's the pity. His work was again indirectly mentioned in a puzzle elsewhere at AutoPuzzles, within the last handful of days.
Related to "daddy sang bass" :)?
Indeed!
Related to the Statler Brothers?
Other than that three-word phrase? No.
Is he a country singer?
Is the fact that this picture seems to show a restaurant of any relevance?

Beyond three words? Not that I'm aware of
Any connection to JD Sumner?
The man is John Flansburgh of They Might be Giants.
So would the car be "Electric car"?
Damn! Beaten to it by minutes.
The answer was staring us in the face - Otto has even posted a YouTube video of their song Boat of Car, which includes a sample of Johnny Cash's Daddy Sang Bass.
"Boat of Car" is what I was looking for. Here are a selection of vehicle tunes (sort of) by John Flansburgh and They Might be Giants.

So, a point each for Ray and Tom. Ray found another applicable TMBG song, and Tom found the song I so heavily hinted at.
