Professionals, do you have any more ideas?

There were many trials specials in the early 1950s which all looked similar, many of which were owner/driver/comstructor one-offs.
Let's try Cotton.

There were many specials, but according to my source, this one was _really_ special

And no, it is not a Cotton

pnegyesi

This was a championship winning special

faksta

Any Buckler relation?

pnegyesi

Neither Buckler, nor Ausford

Allan L

Ken Wharton won the championship in a car of his own making, and the photos I've seen could be the same car, but also might not be.

:applause:  - yes, this the Ken Wharton special

Amazing - I've never heard of a racer winning a championship in a charcoal drawing before!  ;D

scan of a photocopied article which featured just a tiny illustration of this car. But I thought it'd be a nice puzzle. And I've seen worse quality illustrations posted as puzzles here....

I think there were three Wharton Austin/Ford trials specials with registration numbers:
JHA 704
BFY 229 (in use 1947)
KHA 1 (in use December 1948)
