Experts?
Pros?
Though this company produced passenger vehicles for many years, this model lasted but two years.
It can be tough to get guesses on semi-generic-looking pre-war cars around here!
I have no idea what it might be, but I guess I can start asking a bunch of dumb questions, if you don't mind.
So... first one: European?
Not a dumb question, but not from there.
American?
(Don't worry -- I'm sure the questions will get dumber as they go! ;) )
OK, then there's a lot of narrowing down to do...
When you say they produced "passenger vehicles" (I assume you mean "cars") for many years: did they stop before WW II?
No
Is this an obscure early model from someone who's still around? Maybe Ford?
After some name and ownership changes, still around.
Ford still builds and sells personal-use passenger vehicles, so, not a Ford.
OK, so, still around but not making cars anymore...
Did they stop making cars before 1980?
Yes, they did.
Studebaker?
No sir. This company produced significantly fewer automobiles. Studebaker, and it's survivor affiliates, no longer produce motor vehicles.
Let's focus on the make name shown in the actual puzzle.
Were there cars made under this name before 1910?
Were there cars made under this name after 1960?

Sounds like an Hudson Model 20, then.

That's what I've been doing, adding detail to illuminate why the answers, so far, have been off the mark, which also affords hints toward the correct identification of the vehicle pictured.

Motorized vehicles, yes. Passenger automobiles? I'm more than 50% certain they did not.

Not a Hudson, but a sound guess :)
OK, so... an American passenger car make that existed from the 1910s (based on the photo), but probably not before 1910, until between WW II and 1960. Have I understood correctly?
This probably doesn't fit the criteria, but just to get it out of the way: Is there any Rambler / Jeffery / Nash / AMC connection here?
My next guess was Rambler as well, but couldn't find a 2-year model like that...

Not a Rambler or sister brand. This company's run of passenger automobiles ("cars", in the strictest sense) ended before WWII.

OK, that wasn't clear before. Did it end in the '30s?
Yes
OK, haven't had much time to look into possibilities, but I'll take a shot just based on the dates: Stutz?
Not a Stutz.
I hate to have it come down to questions like this, but: Does the name begin with a letter in the A to M range?
American-La France?

Yes, it does
The "passenger vehicles" seems to be relevant.
Is it one of the Checker-related brands?
International I.H.C. Model J 26\30HP?
Everything fits:
Between A and M
1st motorized buggy in 1899
Active in 1907 till 1911 with some passenger cars in the 30s
Active as I.H.C. in 2 years only, 1910 and 1911
Still alive.
Nicely done, sir!
Thank you, but with my list everyone can do that... ;)
