I have this car as Indy Special

Otto Puzzell

That's not the name I have.

I also have it as Indy Coupe, made by Kampney Studio to Promotions, painted and modified by Mike Haas, with a 454 Chevy engine over a Lola T-70 Can Am

OK - that's a more complete answer, and answers the question that accompanies the picture. I had it listed as the "Herb Grasse Lola T70". Grasse (designer of the Bricklin) was the designer of this custom body.

I can't find any reference to this car being called the "Indy Special". Grasse did pen an "Indy Car Concept", which was of the open-wheel configuration one might expect.

I´ve find this name in a special edition of Hot Rod from the 80s, called Hot Rod Show World 1987 or 1988. I´ll take a picture of the page, which show this car in a color side view to post here.

This car was built a least 5 years previous. I wonder if somebody bought, modified and re-named it?

If it's the same car, it's a re-work. The front of the car, especially, is not the same, as the puzzle car has a more 'normal' Lola front, augmented with a large air-dam / splitter, while the second pick has none. Also, the older pic shows a smaller, faired-in air intake, versus the snorkel on the newer car. And that paint job..... :yuck:

I guess this one will be in limbo, until somebody can establish it the same car.

One thing is certain.

Lola T-70s were too cheap at some point, if people could buy them to do these kind of things to them...

faksta

I think that text under the picture explains much...

Allemano

I guess this is the missing front view showing the car in its original shape.

Allemano

If these are one and the same car I clearly prefer the '75 design.

RayTheRat

That seems like a heck of a waste of a Lola T-70.

Btw, Allemano, VERY nice avatar!
