Yeh i've not noticed it here before, but then I haven't trawled through every solved puzzle yet...

Time to give away some points. You know the drill - tell me the name of the car pictured below and you'll be awarded a point :)
It's not denial, I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

Allemano just made me aware that this car has recently been posted in the "What is this car?" inquiries topic.

Should I answer there or can we leave it as a puzzle here? What do you think?

Edit: Mr. barrett, who has originally asked for the identity of this car in the "What's this car?" topic, told me he doesn't mind it being a puzzle. As long as it get's solved :D So, go on and solve it guys!

Well, as I obviously NEED to know about this, i'll ask what I first thought when I saw it.... Is it Skoda-based? (or at least, does it use some Skoda parts)?

ImpishGrin

I can't be sure about single parts, but it certainly is NOT Skoda-based as a whole (chassis, engine etc. are not from Skoda).

it is based on DKW and it was registered as "SAM DKW 1938"
later in the eighties engine was replaced to two stroke Saab engine

what about this puzzle Mr ImpishGrin ???

coś sie chłopaku zapomniało o tym autku?? :))

ImpishGrin

Sorry for such a late reply :)

YEs, del78 is right. This car was officially registered as a DKW SAM (SAM was a polish designation of self-built cars). Mr. Okarmus started building this car in 1958, finished in 1964. The basis was a 1938 DKW, later the engine and gearbox were changed to ones from SAAB. Body was made from laminate, as Mr. Okarmus was one of the best glider designers and had a vast experience with this material.

There were three cars designed and made altogether by Mr. Okarmus and fellow glider designers from Bielsko-Biała. The second car was the Phoenix VW by Mr. Szuba, which I think has already been posted, but I can't find it. The third car has been considered lost.
