Zest prototype 1958 by Michelotti based on Triumph Herald
-
Indeed! :)
Congratulations! You passed your Expert examine! :applause:

Since the Triumph Herald was not introduced until 1959, is this actually the Michelotti prototype for the Herald, rather than being based on it?
-
Are you sure it wasn't TR based, the overall look and the wheels look very TR4.
-
My source (which I've experienced isn't the most reliable) reports the hardtop was taken from the Triumph Herald.
Shame on me I didn't check if there's any proof for that.
It seems to be a styling exercise which finally indeed became the TR4/5 series. There was another prototype designed by Michelotti and built by Vignale that was called "Zoom". Obviousely the TR4/5 got styling elements from both the "Zoom" and the "Zest".
Additional infos are easily to find on the internet.. if they are more definite — I don't know!

As far as I understand it was based on the TR3A. Only the hardtop came from the Herald.
