Melkus-VW Rennwagen 1951 based on a VW Schwimmwagen Typ 166 with a 4-cyl. Boxer engine

Would a Schwimmwagen not be technically speaking a KdF-Wagen base?

I'm pretty sure a Schwimmwagen was 4WD.

And it had a PTO to drive the prop.

This Special looks like its Front Engined.

I'd love to see how the components were used in this car....

was it 4WD?

Or were the parts used to create a front engined RWD car?

Very cool & interesting....

My source says nothing about it, I'm sorry.

I can't add anything either.
Perhaps there is a Melkus expert that may be able to answer these questions.

I have this. Tried to translate with Google, but received something messy. Maybe someone could make it better?

QuoteMelkus VW.

1.[...] He (Melkus) rebuilt the original "Schwimmwagen" chassis, put the engine at the front, took only the front-wheel-drive and a front-driven VW was born!

2. H. Melkus took the incomplete car from a young mechanic (metal worker) who had already moved the engine to the front and undocked the rear-drive of the 4WD Schwimmwagen. Within three months and with help of enthusiastic friends a racing car was built with a top-speed of app. 150 km/h

So, one of these sources seems to be not completely right!

First one is a book, second is the web, but the official one. I suggest the second is more sound.
