From Hawaii?
A good guess, but it's not from Hawaii..
Was the guy a US Navy sailor?
Built by a sailor in WWII, between battles?
I suppose so, but my source says nothing about it!
All I have is the name of the car, a year when the picture was taken and the name of the location
Based on a Jeep?
No - the tires are too small. I suppose this picture could have been taken in occupied Japan, so this would be based on something from that country.

Yes! ;)
Let's go with The Philippines
I give you a hint: the photo was taken in the Pacific region...
Not on the Philippines, though.
Must be San Diego, or thereabouts
Another hint: for a special reason it's very quiet there. (in contrast to San Diego)
Tahiti?
No.
Very quiet? Bikini Atoll?
Not the Bikini Atoll, but you got my hint right.
The reason why its quiet there has another reason...
Iwo Jima?
No.
Another hint:

I've searched for homebuilt & sailor, homebuilt & navy ,racer & sailor, racer & navy, roadster & sailor, roadster & navy....
I got nothin'
On one particular and common source you find it on the first result if you choose the right words. (these key-words are very easy and obvious, but I think you have to add at least one to your list...)
1945 "Swickie Special" ;D
Yes, :applause: and.. was it that hard? ;)
Not with all the clues I supplied. 8)
"Guam + special + car" would had been the right key-words.. ;)
All in good fun.
Very interesting puzzle - I like playing detective, even if I don't solve most of them.
Maybe we should introduce a rule for assists...
Let's not go down that slippery slope. ;D
I´ve had this on my HD before and knew it but wasn´t able to find it :P
I know those desperate situations. ;)
