Title: Solved - MJW #082 - Frazer Daimler-Jaguar Special 1969
Post by: woodinsight on November 03, 2010, 05:18:30 AM
Pretty obscure and built in an unusual place.
What was it based on, what engine did it use, who built it and when for a point please.

VW based? Built in an East European country?

I can see why you said VW!
It's possible the builder used some VW body parts but I can't confirm that.
It was not built in Eastern Europe and the base vehicle/engine has nothing to do with VW.

Oh dear, I'm not sure if I'll be able to find this one again...
From what I remember, it's a British-built car based on (I think) a Jaguar. Body is GRP. I have a feeling the place I saw it was one of the things I gave away a few years ago after I became bored with old cars (very briefly!) ::)

Talking of VW parts, I reckon those doors are off a 1500 notchback

found it!

Built on the Shetland Isles by a Mr. Frazer in the late '60s. chassis is a Daimler DB18, engine and box are from a 3.8 Jaguar ordered new from the factory. The doors are from a VW! Looking closely I think the rear side windows are too (from a fastback, not a notchback). the reg. no. is BPS 177H

Bingo - you've got it!
Well done and another well earned point for you.
I'll post some additional photos for the record.

Three additional photos -
First is an original rear view and interior shot.
Two and three are when the car was found unrestored several years ago.
It was the intention of the Shetland Classic Car Club to organise this at the time but I haven't heard any news since.
Perhaps someone knows what the latest is on this unique car is.
