It's not that but it is based on a British car

I guess the car itself is British as well?  Could it be on a Jaguar base?

Yes - the car is all British.
It's not Jaguar-based however.
The base was a popular sports car in its day.

Neither Ford or Triumph based
A clue - this car shares its name with a famous pre-war single seater

Popular sportscar base, not MG or Triumph. Assuming the base is British. Austin-Healey?

Not HRG

The car that shares the puzzle car's name was originally Italian and rebuilt in the UK as a single seater.
(That's a big clue)

Well, Multi-Union fits the clue

That's correct!
Well done, I thought this was going to end up in the BH.
This is a Multi-Union based on an Austin-Healey 3 litre.
Although the advert below states the year as 1957, I rather think this is the year of the car it was based on.
I don't know who built it or whether any others were built.

UDA22 is a 2660cc Austin Healey manufactured in 1955 (according to a well-known source) which would make it a four-cylinder. Even in 1957 when the 100-6 appeared, the 3 litre A-H was three years into the future.

Thanks Allan - the information is often typical of certain dealers - wrong!
I'll alter the date in the heading.
