It's fiberglass.
Only 13 bodies were prepared.
one of them had a VW 1600, the others Ford V4 2 litre.

pnegyesi

so gtr4 is from South Africa, based on a Volkswagen and only 13 were built. Right?

pnegyesi

and gtr1 is it a self-built one-off?

Paul Jaray

The builder of this car made also other vehicles, and the company "Name-Surname et Cie" was estabilished...the production seems to be very limited, but you can find his name in many books.

I suppose it existed only a few years in the early 1920s...

Paul Jaray

You'd be surprise, then...it was active for more than 30 years....

Sorry Pal, I missed your replies.
about #4, one of them had a VW 1600, the others Ford V4 2 litre, there were made only 13 moulds (I don't know how many were completed...) and the builder was from South Africa.
about #1, he was listed as a car manufacturer in many sources (a couple of well known encyclopedias, or a small guide of French cars...) but the years may differ from source to source. All of them report more than 25 years.

Gaston Barré? If that is a vehicle by him, than it is a half-repost as a Barré has already been featured in a group puzzle.

Paul Jaray

He was not....but there was another man, same surname but not related AFAIK, that was indeed from Lyon, not a Manufacturer, but related to cars...but probably it won't help much.

Have you heard about the Auto-Fauteil? Meet its inventor, George Gauthier, who is pictured on the 1st picture of this puzzle.

gtr4:Completed Fibreglass Kombi. 13 Bodies were moulded. I bought 12 and 13 and had both on the road before any of the other 11 were finished. The body shell is uniconstruction, including the glassfibre floor. The front doors are gull wing doors. One had a manual gear box and 1600 VW aircooled motor. The other had an automatic Kombi gearbox, Ford 2l V4 engine ( output range suits the Kombi box ) with radiator and thermostatically controlled radiator up front. The radiator and engine was connected with 50 mm stainless steel tube and a bit of flexible radiator hose. The designer, Roy Letherbarrow, did the fibreglass molding but had no idea as how to do the locks, striker plates etc, etc, etc, like in all the bits and pieces to make it work.

Posted by a certain "gatiep" (real name Joe ???) at a non-automotive forum.

I believe it is not a repost :)

gtr6: Should be no problem - but it is a problem :) So I assume it is from USA. Was it a cover car of a Popular magazine or an automotive magazine?

Paul Jaray

Pal, you are amazing!

About #6: it is american and it was on the cover of a magazine, but not a Popular or Automotive one...it was more about Science and Mechanics....
I know it's a big clue, but I'll leave another, just in  case.

If you read carefully my previous replies, you'll find a particular one and if you read between the lines, yuo'll find an (easy) point.
