Experts?
-
GTR 13
1928 Franziss Special
( not a repost, I think )
-
Correct!
..but I believe it's a modern car (2004?), Frazer Nash-derived chassis with a Curtiss aero engine...
-
GTR 24.
Frank Matatta , " the pink beast" ( may also have ben known under another name )
Also, as far as I can tell, not a repost.
-
another good one...I do have another name, but do you know the base?
(I suggest you to find also a couple of reposts, or you'll lose a couple of points... ;))
if you spot a repost and a new one: 2 points
-
GTR 8 looks like a Caribee kit car, and if it is, its not a repost either.
-
GTR 8 looks like a Caribee kit car, and if it is, its not a repost either.
Not that...
I edited my last reply.
-
I think he called it Dragon, everybody else that saw it called it Ugly.... ;D
Basis was a very rare Lincoln Convertible.
I'll look for some reposts... :)
-
My source reports that was based on a '40 Mercury Convertible Sedan and was also nicknamed MaRatta's Mistery...and yes, it can't pass for a Pininfarina design...
-
Mercury, yeah that makes more sense...
( I found Lincoln, but Merc would fit better...)
-
alright then, go Pros!
-
GTR 9 - That“s a 1954 MG Lester but this one is a Special Coupe...the others are open bodied cars?
GTR17-That“s a Jaeger but this one is a the prototype.
GTR 21 - The only other Harpia ( Number 1 ) Harpia II and III are solved puzzles.
-
GTR15: Scirocco Speedster ME1 by Martin Eckhoff was not presented here before, I think
GTR 2: Lehalle Coeur de Belle we do already know.
-

GTR17-That“s a Jaeger but this one is a the prototype.
GTR 21 - The only other Harpia ( Number 1 ) Harpia II and III are solved puzzles.
6 Points for you!
None of these is a repost but all of them are close to previous puzzles!
GTR15: Scirocco Speedster ME1 by Martin Eckhoff was not presented here before, I think
GTR 2: Lehalle Coeur de Belle we do already know.
2 Points for you!
A new one and a repost.
-
gtr10 is the Island Cruiser 2000 from Jamaica and I think it's not a repost
-
gtr18 is Caruna Spider based on Porsche 914
and I believe it's a repost
-
Is GTR5 a Spohn creation that belongs in the Spohn topic but that is not posted there yet?
-
gtr10 is the Island Cruiser 2000 from Jamaica and I think it's not a repost
Correct 1 point for you (2 points if you spot also a repost)
gtr18 is Caruna Spider based on Porsche 914
and I believe it's a repost
Correct, but it's a repost (0 points) and you need a new one for 2 points...
Is GTR5 a Spohn creation that belongs in the Spohn topic but that is not posted there yet?
This is a good question...
I do not have a name for that and I thought it was a Spohn too...but probably it's not....more details are required about this car... I have an idea about it, supported by what I found with the pic...
-
.
-
gtr22 is a Sbarro Filippinetti I Coupe, 1965 which is a repost
gtr14 is the Kango from South Africa which is not a repost
-
Great Idea, Paul
-
gtr12 is Electraph 225, a French electric car made during WW2, apparently not a repost
-
.
I know, but want to try something new...
gtr22 is a Sbarro Filippinetti I Coupe, 1965 which is a repost
gtr14 is the Kango from South Africa which is not a repost
Perfect! 2 points!
gtr12 is Electraph 225, a French electric car made during WW2, apparently not a repost
Very good 1 point!Great Idea, Paul
I'm glad you like it!
-
gtr7 looks like a Tzen, repost
-
Gtr8: Barrett Steam Car
Gtr11: Fiat 1100 by Paul Farago
Gtr20: Phoenix (made in Poland, on VW chassis)
None of them appear to be a repost. There is a VW-based car named Phoenix in the database, but it is a camper very different from this nice coupé...
-
gtr7 looks like a Tzen, repost
..not Tzat!
Gtr8: Barrett Steam Car
Gtr11: Fiat 1100 by Paul Farago
Gtr20: Phoenix (made in Poland, on VW chassis)
None of them appear to be a repost.
All correct!
The Farago was quite obscure, well done!
Time for some clues:
There is only one repost left and only one car with a strong connection with a previous puzzle (2, if you consider #5). All the others are new.
-
Gtr7 is the 1976 Chasseing, a French version of the German Fibrefab Bonito (which also spawned many British variants; Excalibur, etc.), and is not a repost.
-
Correct, Porsche-Powered, VW-based.
-
Clue time:
#1 - European
#3 - few sports used that base
#4 - not European
#5 - I know it's not easy, but forget the front and look at the side...
#6 - this one can't be a problem for you
#16 - European
#19 - European
#23 - I'm sure you are not looking good at this
-
5 may have started as a Cadillac. ???
-
Very good!
That is indeed a Cadillac.
A particular feature of the car is that the front hood can rolls forward on rails...sounds familiar?
#5 locked for Otto till his next reply.
-
A rework of the Cadillac in the Spohn article?
-
When I first saw the car I was sure it was by Spohn, but when I read that it was a Cadillac-based custom and that the hood could slide on rails I took a better look...at the side of the car...and I remembered...
(still locked for Otto)
-
I think I just made an extraordinary find...
-
Somebody else is welcome to give this one a try.
-
Is #01 from eastern Europe?
-
#01 - Not East Europe...
#03 - Few questions will put you in the right track
#04 - Same nation of another car from this very puzzle...
#05 - I deserve 2 points myself...
#06 - This one can't be still around!
#16 - There are some clues in the pic...
#19 - Europe
#23 - You will find it...
-
#1- It is what it seems.
#3- Not powered by an American engine
#4- Follow the Kango...
#5- Cadillac engine, sliding hood...
#6- Magazine Cover Car ....
#16- You are not paing attention to the details...
#19- This one can't be too hard for you.
#23- Anyone?
-
Is nr.4 an Oka?
-
Not an Oka...
-
As I am not able to identify any of the other (so far) unknown vehicles I“ll reveil car gtr-16 now:
it is the Heylandt Höllenhund (Hell hound), a pioneer rocket car that debuted in April 1931 and has not been shown here before.
The Heylandt Raketenauto was presented at Berlin“s Tempelhof airport by Dr.Paulus Heylandt.

If you spot a repost: 0 points
if you spot a repost and a new one: 2 points
if you spot a new one: 1 point
if you spot a new one that is barely a repost and you know why: 2 points
if you spot a new one that is barely a repost but you do not notice that: 1 point
Is it your final answer?
-
Yes.
-
Ok then, you are correct!
-
Is gtr23 a 1950 Yank?
-
Correct!
-
Then it is a re-post! ;D
-
Then it is a re-post! ;D
:lmao:
-
..not yet...
-
Now it is....
#1- French.
#3- The engine is the key...
#4- Follow that Kango
#5- Nothing to add...
#6- Nothing to add...
#19- European....
-
Is #3 equipped with a British engine?
-
Not British, Italian or French.
-
German?
-
Not German, Spanish or American
-
Gtr3 is the Davy Volvo Special 1959 from Canada - and is not a repost
-
Gtr3 is the Davy Volvo Special 1959 from Canada - and is not a repost
Per-fect!
Some clues:
1- french, few cars with strange names
4- f o l l o w t h e k a n g o o
(there is another point too, if someone can read between the lines of my previous replies....)
-
Time to solve this.
1- French, active from 1900s til late 30s, the builder was an engineer, an inventor and an innovator rather than a businessman, he choose funny names for his vehicles, that have 2,3 or 4 wheels. He claimed a famous company stole his patents for a very popular car...
4- I'm not asking you to jump around in your room or to buy a ticket for a faraway land...in the same place where I found the Kangoo you can find this one...this is far beyond the clue!
5- If I post the pic of the side of a car, smooth and long like a torpedo, with the hood that slides on rails, Cadillac powered, taken from a Popular Magazine....
6- This one can't be still around! I can name at least 3 of you that are familiar with this car or at least know the place where I took it...and it's not a big site at all! This car was the cover-car of a magazine...I'll leave my last clue, just in case...
19- If you google the name of this car, you'll find dozens of results about John Wayne...(big clue)
(there is another point too, if someone can read between the lines of my previous replies....)
-
Well, I guess #19 is a Compodanbil Safari, which is now a repost
-
Not a Safari...but the name is not too different from that...
-
Safrar?
-
Not that...
combine this clue with the 'John Wayne' one...
-
Hatari?
-
...made by?
-
VW Seco Hatari!
(not a re-post as far as I know)
-
and another one's gone!
-
is #5 a modified version of Rudy Makela's 1942 Cadillac? Then it would be 'barely' a re-post...
-
Yes! Y E S !
Here's the proof:
-
hmm.. are you sure?
-
The hardest ones are gone.
There is another point available...you have only to read my previous replies....
The missing ones are not so hard.
-
hmm.. are you sure?
I've been studying the pics I have for quite a long time.
The caption below the puzzle's car says: "Specially built custom body. Cadillac chassis. Hood rolls forward on rails to provide access to engine"
I've got a pic of Makela's car taken at the same event in a different year.
The side is the same and only the hood is different. From the windscreen till the rear lights the car is the same. There are only 3 chromed elemets below the puzzle's car door. The numbers on the plate can't be a coincidence...
Here's another view.
-
Yeah, it's more obvious from this angle!
-
#4 - VW-Bus based?
-
It's fiberglass.
Only 13 bodies were prepared.
one of them had a VW 1600, the others Ford V4 2 litre.
-
so gtr4 is from South Africa, based on a Volkswagen and only 13 were built. Right?
-
and gtr1 is it a self-built one-off?
-
The builder of this car made also other vehicles, and the company "Name-Surname et Cie" was estabilished...the production seems to be very limited, but you can find his name in many books.
-
Something like Jack Enders?
-
More French than that.
-
I suppose it existed only a few years in the early 1920s...
-
You'd be surprise, then...it was active for more than 30 years....
-
As a car manufacturer?
-
Sorry Pal, I missed your replies.
about #4, one of them had a VW 1600, the others Ford V4 2 litre, there were made only 13 moulds (I don't know how many were completed...) and the builder was from South Africa.
about #1, he was listed as a car manufacturer in many sources (a couple of well known encyclopedias, or a small guide of French cars...) but the years may differ from source to source. All of them report more than 25 years.
-
Charles Mochet?
-
Not him.
-
Gaston Barré? If that is a vehicle by him, than it is a half-repost as a Barré has already been featured in a group puzzle.
-
Not him...
-
Léon Laisne?
-
Not Leon Laisne.
-
Was he from Lyon?
-
He was not....but there was another man, same surname but not related AFAIK, that was indeed from Lyon, not a Manufacturer, but related to cars...but probably it won't help much.
-
Georges Richard?
-
Not him...
-
Have you heard about the Auto-Fauteil? Meet its inventor, George Gauthier, who is pictured on the 1st picture of this puzzle.
-
:applause:
-
gtr4:Completed Fibreglass Kombi. 13 Bodies were moulded. I bought 12 and 13 and had both on the road before any of the other 11 were finished. The body shell is uniconstruction, including the glassfibre floor. The front doors are gull wing doors. One had a manual gear box and 1600 VW aircooled motor. The other had an automatic Kombi gearbox, Ford 2l V4 engine ( output range suits the Kombi box ) with radiator and thermostatically controlled radiator up front. The radiator and engine was connected with 50 mm stainless steel tube and a bit of flexible radiator hose. The designer, Roy Letherbarrow, did the fibreglass molding but had no idea as how to do the locks, striker plates etc, etc, etc, like in all the bits and pieces to make it work.
Posted by a certain "gatiep" (real name Joe ???) at a non-automotive forum.
I believe it is not a repost :)
-
gtr6: Should be no problem - but it is a problem :) So I assume it is from USA. Was it a cover car of a Popular magazine or an automotive magazine?
-
Pal, you are amazing!
About #6: it is american and it was on the cover of a magazine, but not a Popular or Automotive one...it was more about Science and Mechanics....
I know it's a big clue, but I'll leave another, just in case.
If you read carefully my previous replies, you'll find a particular one and if you read between the lines, yuo'll find an (easy) point.
-
Is that the car we're looking for?
-
Yes!
-
Still got no name for it only a vague description...
-
Believe me, that vague description is all you need.
-
1948 "Dream Car made from Surplus"?
-
This is not only what is written on the cover of that magazine, but also what you can read in an ad of the car, togheter with the builder's name.
Final clue: 44-59-99
-
Humm....It“s the "Beast"? The car was called the "Beast", weighed 2,669 pounds and had a Jeep engine.
???
-
That is interesting!
The car is named after its builder and in each source there's nothing about "the best" but it is simply called "Special". It has got a Jeep chasiss and another pic of mine with the body lifted up, reveals that these 2 cars are the same. The builder is from New York and if you read my clues, the answer will be much easier...I remind you that another point lies somewhere if you read my clues...just in case.
-
Grand Prix Motors was owned by James McAllister of the famous tugboat family from NY..
You“re looking for James McAllister Special?
-
Not this case...
-
C'mon...I litterally gave you the answer more than once.
In case you are wondering where...it's here and in others replies and there is also another EASY point if you only read between the lines...
-
FINALLY!!!!! :drink:
:D :D
"Case Special Super Speedster" was a homebuilt dream car fashioned from a WWII Jeep."
-
6- This one can't be still around! I can name at least 3 of you that are familiar with this car or at least know the place where I took it...and it's not a big site at all! This car was the cover-car of a magazine...I'll leave my last clue, just in case...

Not this case...
-
Well done, but remeber the title of this puzzle...your answer is not complete.
There is one, simple point for anyone who will take the time to review my answers...there's one in particular that should make you ring a bell....I'll leave it for few hours then it will be time to move!
-
This one is not a repost I believe..
-
Yep...but there is that last point out there...
-
OK, time is over...while I give your points, please take a look at my reply #44.
-
...and BTW, the Case was a repost, one of Ray's one.
-
...and BTW, the Case was a repost, one of Ray's one.
Can you show us the link?
-
Well done!

Can you show us the link?
I'm the one who solved it, when I started this puzzle, I checked each repost.
The other one (that's why my reply #44) was a rocket car, by Heylandt with Max Valier.
I've checked now, and they are both gone.
-
I asked because I couldn't find it either. Maybe that made it a little harder to make the last point... ;D
Strange, that Ray kept silent.
-
I asked because I couldn't find it either. Maybe that made it a little harder to make the last point... ;D
Strange, that Ray kept silent.
The last point was a bit hard, under the circumstances...about the Case, I wrote I can name at least 3 of you that are familiar with this car or at least know the place where I took it...
, and one of them is Ray.
Game over! ;D
-
GTR 24.
Frank Matatta , " the pink beast" ( may also have ben known under another name )
Also, as far as I can tell, not a repost.
A front 3/4 view of this "radical complex" kustom.
-
And it seems that Rudy Makela had a lot of trouble in choosing the right fron for his custom:
