What tenuous, indirect link can be made between these vehicles? There are many possible answers, but only one will pay points.

The model for the "Spirit of Ecstasy" mascot on the Rolls-Royce was said to have been Lord Montagu's Secretary.
The loading platform on the transporter is clearly modelled on Lord Montagu's tennis court. :hah:
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

I recognized the first crawler thingy. I know, the 2nd is the Spirit of Ectasy. Is there a connection in the names?

Taking the James Bond link. The Rolls was built with its body made of gold to allow for smuggling (therefore it was a bit heavier than normal) ....

So in proportion do both vehicles have the same loading on the ground under them. i.e. both exert xx kg/m2 on the road....

What about both things connected with hiding things?
The Rolls-Royce was a way of getting gold out of the country by making the car's panels of gold without anyone noticing that anything unusual was happening; and wasn't the crawler used in 'You Only Live Twice' in which a volcano was used as a cover for launching space craft, and this crawler was used to put the rocket into position?  A bit tenuous I know, but isn't that what you said in the first place?!

Both vehicles shown have twins that performed the same jobs.

There are 2 Crawlers, Hans and Franz.

And the Rolls  Royce chassis no. 3BU168 from the Bond movie, had a twin that was in the 1964 movie The Yellow Rolls Royce.

Both owned by Bond villians? I'm sure Dr.No had something similar to the roller thing at his guano proccessin plant (in the film at least, if not in the book)

No sir.

That's not it.  However, you have correctly surmised that although there is a James Bond connection, that doesn't mean both vehicles were in a James Bond book or film.

Goldfinger (first name Auric) owns this excellently preserved black and yellow 1937 Rolls Royce III , where Oddjob proceeds to chauffeur him around....
