It appears to be a work-in-progress recreation of GM's famous "Waldorf Nomad" showcar from 1954. The original showcar was built on a 1954 Chevrolet passenger car chassis, with station wagon styling based on the just-introduced Corvette. There have been a few of these replica Waldorf Nomads (so named because it was first introduced and displayed at the Waldorf Hotel in New York) built over the years . . . some as hot rods, some close to stock, even one on a 1956-57 style Corvette body!  The roof of the showcar obviously was a precursor to the 1955 Chevy Nomad, and supposedly the show car itself was destroyed by GM in the late 50's . . . a rumor GM will neither confirm nor deny.  There have been rumors for years tht it survived, but as far as I can find out no one's actually seen it.  The car in the picture looks like a pretty good start on a replica Waldorf Nomad project, but more than one of them has been started and never finished.

You're on the right way, but what can you tell us to narrow it down, besides the obvious. I lock this for you 48 hours.

Well, let's see . . . I know Zane Zander's recreation is pretty much considered the best of the small bunch.  I've seen two other completed versions, both lowered street-rod versions, one silver and one black. I believe both of those have changed hands a couple of times since constructed so I don't really know who owns them now, although one or both of them usually shows up at Corvettes at Carlisle.  Sorry I can't be more specific than that - I'll keep looking but if anyone else recognizes this particular replica, have at it.

It's not Zane Zanders.
I'll leave this in the rookie section a few days more. You'll have little competition until it goes up to the experts', anyway.

I think we're just looking for the builder, aren't we? It's been established that this is a replica of the "Waldorf Corvette Nomad".

This one was created in 1979 by the great customiser Dick Dean, based on a 1955 Chevy Nomad.

Yes, and you steal the point, since the 48 hours lock has passed (but I believe that fyreline's count will soon grow).

No point stolen, he earned it  :) - I wouldn't have come up with Dick Dean.  I was going to ask if it ever got finished, but I see that it certainly did:
