Studebaker inside?

Not a Studebaker.
By the way, the puzzler who will find this one has a very good chance to solve one of the remaining pictures in a group puzzle.

Late '40s Oldsmobile with a Shoebox Ford grille?

The shoebox Ford grille is obvious, but the late forties Olds is wrong. But you're in the right direction.

The cowl / windshield looks like an immediate pre- or post-WWII Olds - so maybe a 1940 example?

Not an Olds. The "right direction" pointed towards GM. You're almost right as to the year.
I'll add another view.

And a clue: this puzzle is closely connected to my last "racing lady".

Headlights say Pontiac.

Maybe, but the front having been heavily reworked, that doesn't induce the car was a Pontiac. In fact, it's not.
But it shared the A body, if I remember well with the lesser Pontiacs and OIds.

Ah - a LaSalle

Are you kidding me? I don't think that Lasalle had the A body. Neither had Buick or Cadillac.

Since you've tried all the others, I might as well spell it out for you: Chevrolet.

No, I wasn't kidding. Sorry I'm such an obtuse hack. LaSalles had headlights of that configuration. And, as you said, the front is heavily reworked.

We're all deaf at times.
My advice: follow my clue a few posts above. It will get you home sooner.

I am just trying my luck here. This is a late 1940s Chevy, modified in 1953 with a Ford grille and probably some engine upgrades as well. Right?

The grille is 1949-50 Ford, not 1953.
But this is a rather obscure modified car, not a famous custom. And, if I remember well, about the only chance you'll have to solve this is to follow the clue given in my reply #7.

What did I tell you?
Would a full name be too much to ask?

Gordon Harvey is an interesting driver as it appears that he participated in only one Nascar event, the 1951 Daytona beach race. He drove a Henry J, finished 43rd of 54, but as one website points "could always brag that he beat Fireball Roberts", who finished 45th.
