A proposal for the Muntz Jet by Frank Kurtis?

Nope, but you're in the right direction.

Last guess for today. I am sure by the time I wake up, someone else will find it, but that's life :)

Is this a Howard Darrin design?

Arunas

Sketch was made in a period 1945-1948?

Ray B.

Not a Darrin design, but he was at a time related with the company who built (I didn't say design) the actual car.

Can this be a proposal for a Kaiser sportscar?

Exactly from 1948?

This isn't known. I'd say earlier.
Do you mean the drawings or the existing car?
Quote from: Arunas on September 18, 2009, 02:46:26 PM
I mean the years of the sketch...

What else can I say ?

Not a Kaiser.
Not a major company, not a well-established independent.

Was this done under the Packard name?

Joao Gois

Something no one has asked: the car it was supposed to be the evolution of was american?

The 1950's plate makes me think it was rendered by John Tjaarda...  Post-date the rendering several years so as not to upset the Powers-That-Be...

Ray B.

Replying to the last three questions:
No connection with Packard (see my post just above yours, storekeep60).
american: yes.
John Tjaarda: no.

Walter Dorwin Teague design?

Ray B.

Nope.
Let's make it a two-point puzzle, one for the car it was based on, one for the designer responsible for this drawing (I am strongly opposed to the use of this ugly word "rendering").
And let's sum up what we know:
- American
- Mid engined
- Original car crafted by a company once related with Howard Darrin
- Original car was by neither a major company, neither a well-known independent.

I'll add that, although rather well-known (and a former puzzle) it was built in a ridiculously low quantity.

Could it be a Ralph Roberts styling proposal for the Crosley, maybe Skorpion?

storekeep60

Was this company based on the west coast?

No (and the Crosley was built in more than a "ridiculously low quantity").

It sure was.

How about a render   er, a styling proposal for the ridiculously low quantitied rear-engined, front wheel driven Gregory?

Ray B.

No, but production numbers speaking, you're in the right direction.
Remember, we are talking of a styling proposal for a further development of a car that was built (I don't know how many Gregorys were built, but I'll take a bet that there were no less than this one).

An updated and rationalized Phantom Corsair?
No, but the first car, built some years after the Corsair, had the same production number.

A production number of 1, just like the 1946 Beechcraft Plainsman?

1 produced, but no Beechcraft. Remember an important clue: mid-engined.
