Looks like Lincoln Zephyr 40
Looks like, but nothing more...
Free for all
Was it a Studebaker before this happened?
No, but you did spot correctly some Studebaker parts on that car.
I have it as a Plymouth Sports Custom.
Well, I don't know how much Plymouth is really in there, but, the tail lights ARE genuine 1949 Plymouth.
They are just like mine.
Yes, metalshapes is right, that's the name it has where I found it.
However, metalshapes, please give us the builder and the rest of the story.
Locked for him one week.
A week?! ;D
I like to think that people happen to spend some time far from their computer.
He's got the car, it's obvious.
Thanks, but I think its somebody else' turn to finish this one.
I've searched quite a bit, but I dont think I can find the rest of the info...
While we wait...
Go on Paul, since he says so. You'll get a point each in the end, since metalshapes gave the correct name (if I may say so). I can't access the original page with the car in it.
I think we will keep on waiting, since a found lots of pics but no more details... :-\
I found the details again.
So, still open for everyone, and a second point.

Do they come from a big site, dedicated to custom cars, with thousands of pictures?
Nope if I read you well. But from another dedicated website that you surely know. I still can't access to the page I'd seen, but I found another way around.
Front page featured, and Tweeted, too.

::)
You don't want it featured? ???
Of course I want it. I guess the rolling eye hasn't the same meaning for everyone.
Skyline X50, early 50's USA
Nope. I already did the Skyline before, and that's not it (see the pics: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=8032.0 )
Let's go to less crowded places
Is MANN the name you are looking for?
The car is licensed as a 1949 Plymouth and was built by a Studebaker engineer.
Plymouth frame, Chrysler wire wheels, Studebaker grille, Studebaker dash, 1941 Studebaker front fenders and headlamps, custom hood. In the mid-1970s, a Ford 250-cu.in. straight-six was installed. The car has a (removable) hardtop and side curtains but no convertible top. There is no trunk opening. Access to the trunk is by removing the bench seat back.
Paul, it's no wonder to me that it would you who should eventually find these informations.
You' re right about it all of course, except maybe that in my source Charles Mann, from Elkhart, Indiana, is only noted as the "previous owner". It doesn't say that he's the man who built it. The engine that equipped this car when built is not known.
So, if you agree, we'll attribute the car to this mysterious "Studebaker engineer".
as I said before, one point for metalshapes and one for you.
