It wasn't supposed to be a new car replacing the Syrena. The idea was to make a body of glass-reinforced epoxy resins (a kind of laminate, thus the name) which could be produced quickly and cheaply as a spare part available for purchase after Syrena's production in FSO ceases (which was originally planned to happen in 1968). Four bodies were made by the factory and mounted on chassis of Syrena 100, 101, 102 and 104 for a 3-year trial period to see how it worked with the different models. In the meantime a decision was made to continue production of Syrena in FSM, so there was no need for the new body. In a not-exactly-explained way the forms for production of the laminate bodies appeared outside the factory and home-made bodies were produced until mid-80s. An unknown number of bodies was made in this way, probably somewhere between 10 and 100.
