Trying to keep your AutoPuzzles spirits up, and your fever down.

Know the story? For 1 point, identify the reason this out-of-place vehicle is intermingled with the others, where this happened, and the date.

Partial answers will be answered with 'incomplete', so be sure to answer all parts of the question, if you'd like the point.

Bahamas?
Lots of Spanish speakers in the Bahamas! Woodinsight's losing the plot!  :-[

Could the location be Key West?
Late 1950s/early 1960s?
Testing the speed/driveabilty of the hovercraft against some mundane machinery?

Otto Puzzell

Not in the Keys, but not far from their terminus.

This was not a comparative test of hovercraft and wheeled vehicles.

It was an innovative experiment in track drying! It worked pretty well, but the hovercraft skid down the banking in the corners. Picture taken at Florida City Speedway, Homestead, on Sept. 6, 1971

Another point for you.
