It's a Cisitalia and it's by Pininfarina but it's not a Fiat 1400 (as I said before it's not actually called a Fiat at all) nor is it from 1953.

my source says it's based upon the chassis of a Fiat 1400. The engine is still from the older Cisitalia 202.
The car is from Argentina, there was also an engine available by BPM with 2,8 liter.

A different source says it was also availaible on a Fiat 1900 and Fiat 1100. And also a Volvo based version is made. According to this source the car is from 1958.

I have it as a Cisitalia coupe Pininfarina built between 1953 and 1958 and based on a Fiat 1400.  Just one car was built : it has an 2.8 litre aluminum engine built by BPM, and it is located in Holland, after being during some time in Argentina.

...which is pretty much what Limo said as well.
It didn't tally with what I have then and it still doesn't so I'm going to have to look into this further.

I've seen all the sources that you're quoting but none tally exactly with the info I have, which comes from what I consider to be a very authoritative source.

It's a Fiat-engined Pininfarina-bodied Cisitalia, yes, but a Cisitalia what, which engine and from when?
No-one has answered these questions correctly yet (assuming my source is correct, which I'm 99% sure it is).

Here is what I have:

1958 Cisitalia 203 Coupe by Pinin Farina (note the separation of first and last name. Was like that till 1961 as I understand it).
Unitized body of hand-beaten steal panels seamlessly welded to a FIAT floor section. Hence the $8500 purchase price and the ultimate downfall of this car.
The motor was a 2.8 liter aluminum alloy 4 cylinder B.P.M. Marine motor that put out 160 bhp @ 5300 rpm. Top speed was 145 mph.

Tackitt has given me the car's correct name so I have given him the point; even though the others were close they just didn't quite get the full facts.

As far as the 'Pininfarina' name is concerned, 1961 was when Sergio (Pinin, meaning 'baby') Farina officially changed the family surname to Pininfarina - not an easy thing to do at the time and which needed the intervention of Italy's President!  He did it to bring his own name into line with what the company had already been calling itself for some years to avoid confusion with the old family firm of Stabilimenti Farina - I believe since about 1954.

I'm sure there are more facts surrounding this and if I haven't got it quite right I'm sure one of our Italian regulars will straighten me out!

Yes, sorry, but I did try to give you every opportunity to post the full correct answer.
There is a limit to locking it and once it was opened up and I was given the full answer I had no other option!

Carnut was generous here, but that's not the standard way to play! Usually you have to provide complete answers to gain a point. If you're posting vague or close but not correct replies you'll do it on your own risk.
That's the game as it is played. As long as the puzzle isn't locked for you everybody has the opportunity to steal your virtually safe point. So, don't bother or feel offended if you sometimes miss the chance to score in cases like that.
