For one point, I do not want to know what this car is.
I don't want to know the engine or the coachbuilder.
I don't want to know what year it was built.
I don't want to know where the photo was taken.

What I want to know is: What Is Wrong With This Car?
It is not something small and invisible. I have not altered the photo in any way.

There are actually two major things wrong with it but I am looking for just one of them and it is particular to this car.

It has no doors...???

It has one door at the front and that is sufficient for this car.
So the door(s), or lack of, is not the issue.
What I am looking for has to do with how this car is "presented."

Totally impractical vehicle for the Deutsche Bundesposte to use...........so it's either a non-authentic livery or possibly incorrect livery for year of vehicle?

Ah, you are on to something now.
Ignore the year although it is related to one of the major issues that is "wrong" with this vehicle.

Pelland

This has got me beat.  One observation though is that the car has "Option" chrome hubcaps where most DB vehicles were base models and therefore would likely to have had painted hub caps...yellow on black wheels or black caps on yellow wheels.

.............or is this the answer?  The car is a higher spec model than the DB livery would normally have been seen on?

The horn logo isn't the current one in use.  Maybe vehicles being used must
display the new logo, not the period-correct one for the vintage of the car.

microcars

No, it is not about an option package.
It is not about the paint.
The logo is an interesting guess but not the one I am looking for. Certainly not a "major" issue.

The Deutsche Bundespost did indeed use BMW Isettas for postal deliveries at one time though this vehicle was probably not one of them.
What is Wrong with this Car?

Pelland

I give up!!.........it better not be the fact that the steering wheel isn't on straight!!! ;)

Side markers vertical instead of horizontal.

Nein.   Much bigger than side marker orientation.

I said earlier that it is not some tiny little thing.  I chose this photo for a reason.

Pelland's first reply has a big clue in it.

And here is another hint: You will not figure it out by staring at the photo.
This may seem to conflict with the statement that what is wrong is visible in the photo, but you won't figure it out by looking ONLY at this photo.

Ok,  is something still wrong if the car is a different colour & doesn't have Deutsche Bundespost on the side of it?

No.

f1fan

For delivery of mail to a mailbox, the driving position is on the wrong side of the car, which is why mail delivery vehicles are right-hand drive.  My postman actually sits in the passenger seat and 'left-foots' it.  The choice of this car, perhaps for it's economy of fuel and size is clumsy for mail delivery.

microcars

it is not the fact that it is LHD or RHD.
Something is wrong with this car, as it is presented.

Just for fun, there is another vehicle currently in the Rookie category, that is displayed in the same room/location as this one.
Can you figure out which one it is?  (no points, sorry...)

f1fan

It doesn't look the same others I seen, which have a 'back' (a vertical piece).

microcars

Here is a pic of another Isetta with the exact same luggage rack (it has a flip-out part that is still folded in)
the luggage rack is not what is wrong with this car as it is presented.

I guess the other vehicle is this one:

My last guess on this one.  Is the car a promotional mock up and not a real vehicle?

Mmmmm....  I think you are sort of on to something with your "promotional mockup" conjecture.
I can't think of a way to go into any more detail without giving away too much info.
I will modify this reply if I can figure out the correct wording.

I will say that this vehicle is sitting on display in a German Automuseum.
(well, it was as of 2002 when this photo was taken...)

f1fan

This is my last shot at this.  I'm guessing a postal vehicle can't be 'retired'
from the German postal service and keep it's "Deutsche Bundespost" markings.
Same rule applies if displayed in a museum.
