Another Puzzle about cars, and songs about cars, and the artists who recorded those songs. This installment again spans the scale from "this is ridiculously easy" to "what, are you kidding me?!
The rules are as follows: No points for naming one of these cars - they are mostly quite easy. The points will be awarded for identifying the artist (1 point each), the song (1 point each), and the correct pairing (1 point each) as represented by a corresponding picture of a car, or an automotive event. While many of these artist have gone on to other walks of life, or that recording studio in the sky, and though their records may be long-since out-of-print, there are no insider-only "you have to have the book" requirements. Patience and good detective work is all that is required to find the solution to all of these. The answers are all available to the general public.
Enjoy!

I'm going to say Artist 3, Song G is David Pearson and "Mabelline" from the Nascar goes Country album...yikes!
I'd sure like to have a look at this guy's record shelf!
No2: The Belairs, they had a song, titled Ramrod, which matches with Car O
Artist 5 is Mr. Richard Anthony Mansour, better known as Dick Dale, and I suppose he matches Vehicle A with his song 'Taco Wagon'?

Song M - Big Black Cad?
I'm sure Song A must be 'Taco Wagon', so artist 4 must be the De-Fenders, who did rather rousing version of that track!
That quote was very confusing.... was that 'No' to Big Black Cad, The De-Fenders and Taco Wagon?
Artist 4 is definitely The De-Fenders... however the singer they are backing is Ian Whitcomb.... so I suppose that could be Song M - too Many Cars on the Road with the lyric;
"Sitting with my baby
In my big black car"
?
The BelAirs sang "Squad Car," which would be Song C...
#7 Evererly Brothers matching up with o(a street car named desire).
Artist No12: The Ready Men.
Song F: My Woodie

The quote indicated you had identified the artist correctly.
You have also correctly ID'd artist 4. I wiped out Mr. Whitcomb's face because he was not on the record in question. "Too Many Cars on the Road" is not anywhere in this puzzle

Maybe Song E--"Hot Rod Racer?"
No
The De-Fenders song could be Song O - Deuces Wild
And Dick Dale could be song N - Blonde in the 406
Beaten by 8 minutes!
The 406 being the engine in this 1963 Falcon... (but it's song K, Barrett!)
I'm sticking with Song N.... ;)
And of course you're right! :bag: I forgot to check what engine powered this baby. And there is a blonde in it too (Carol Linley maybe?)
Quote from: barrett on March 07, 2011, 10:58:28 AM
And Dick Dale could be song N - Blonde in the 406
That's it - the Ford Cougar 406 in this case. The blonde is not named in any of the versions of the photos I sourced.
I only made that guess because the car was featured in 1963 in a movie called Under The Yum Yum Tree with Jack Lemmon and Carol Linley. But the puzzle picture seems to predate this one.
The De-Fenders gho with song A Taco Wagon
"A" is not Taco Wagon.
Ooops! I got mixed up by this picture you stumble upon when googling taco wagon (and wondering why you had blurred it).
So, what about the De-Fenders and song #I Four Banger?
Quote from: Ray B. on March 08, 2011, 04:40:44 AM

"Food Wagon" is not the title of the song either. I blurred the name to avoid confusing the issue.

Right song (Four Banger), but it doesn't go with I
So it must be Song #J.
I don't know much about the model A fours, but on the other rod the carb seems to sit on top, which should make it a V8.
J is Four Banger. Here's an enlarged shot of the 4-banger engine: :)
2 Clues on (another!) snowy morning.

Right band (The Super Stocks Featuring Gary Usher); wrong song.
I think I know the Super Stocks match, but I'm going to wait a while for Pal to get it...let me know if you get stuck on that one Pal.
Band Nr15: ZZ & De Maskers from the Netherlands
and they had a song, simply called Cadillac. Still matched with Car M
Song O: Draggin Deuce' by the Super Stocks (band Nr13). If it's not right, then Aaron65, it's your turn (and thanks for your patience)
My guess was The Super Stocks with Song K, "D/Gas Chevy."
I found another one. No8 is Jim Messina and His Jesters. They had one album: The Dragsters, featuring a song: No Name Dragster, which could be Song K
There's also a track on that album called "Tamale Wagon", which could be Song A
I am not American, which seriously hinders my ability to match the right band with the right song.
But here goes another one (taking into account that Aaron65 and Tom_I are probably right):
Band No7 is Jerry Cole and His Spacemen. And song is Drivin' Little Deuce (Song O)

This one's going fast. Four more pairings to go...
Did you match Band 11 and Song O ?
That possible pairing has not been guessed at.
One of the persons pictured sold millions of records in his career.
Is Artist 6 the million(s) seller? He looks very familiar.
I am not sure, but Artist No6: Johnny Devlin, song H: Big Green Car
And another one which I am fairly sure of:
No10: Eligibles, Song L: Car Trouble
BTW is song I about an Old Jalopy?
Artist 11 and Song I: The Four Lovers and Joyride from 1955

The Four Lovers, who in 1956 released an album called
Joy Ride, which included the song
Joy Ride.
Artists #1 and #6 remain unidentified, as do songs H and O
Song H shows a Mercury. Is the song Green Mercury by Clint Holmes (artist no6)?
Song O is a Model A Rod, right? Is the song about a hot rod, or a Model A hot-rod?
Quote from: pnegyesi on March 21, 2011, 05:05:01 AM

I'll have to look up the year at home, but believe it's newer.
"hot rod" is not in the title of either remaining song.
Hmm, it's tricky. Is "custom" mentioned in any of the two song titles?
No sir.
And Song H is about one decade more recent than your 1954 guess
Is one of the songs a cover of a Beach Boys song?
No
Song H: is the title "Car 54"?

The titles are represented by the pictures.
Is Song H some form of "Lead Sled?"
No sir
Are both remaining artists American?
Yes
Is Artist #6 considered country?
No sir
Is the Model A-related song a cover or an original song?
Cover
Is it a cover of an "original" Model A-related song from the pre-war era?
No
Was the original Model-A related song created in the 1950s?

You're really working hard on this one, so I'm giving you a clue: The title of the song does mention relative scale. But remember, it's an American car ;)
Song H: something like "Big Wheels Sing for Me"?
Nothing big in the title...
is the "relative scale": Fast?
Not speed-related
Does it include the word "long?"
Nope
FYI, the next "Cars and Tunes" puzzle (queued up and ready to go) is a lot more difficult and challenging.
But I won't post it until this one is done. :eyebrow:
How about "Heavy?"
Nope
Uh...how about Wide?
No...
OK, we've covered long, wide, heavy and fast...how about "low?"
No
Beautiful?
No
Expensive?
Think relative size

Not a cover.

No

When you mean relative, do you mean in comparison, like "larger?"
It's a descriptor of size. Not a comparative measure.
What's the theme of this song? Hot rods?
Very much so.
Update: After finally finding an MP3 of the song (the words to the song had been elusive), I've swapping out the old "H" picture for the new one.
Is the word "mighty" appears in the song title?
No
Does the song have "Highboy" in it?
