14 automobiles and trucks. Some are old, some are new.

Each of the vehicles below can paired in an indirect way with one of the other pictured vehicles. Figure out the pairings, and then use that knowledge to put the pairing in order.

Points will be awarded for correct pairings, but not for identifying the vehicles. Most of the vehicle ID's are pretty easy. Some are not easy, but this is a pro-level puzzle, isn't it? And, yes, some of them have previously been puzzles in their own right. No points for being a clever lad and telling us which ones are reposts. A wise AutoPuzzler would keep that to himself, as the information therein might point them toward the correct overall solution.

Another two points to the AutoPuzzler who first puts them in correct order, and explains why they would be ordered that way.

Enjoy!

I'll try to get this going...are 3 and 7 matched up because they're both Chevy wagon-like cars?  The 1992-4 S10 Blazer and the modern HHR?

Aaron65

How about 1 and 5 being Chevy sedans, a 1959 Bel Air/Impala and the new Caprice police car?

João

#4
 :headache:

Number #5 and number #12?

Caprice police car (Chicago Auto Show 2010) protects the 1905 Banker  ;D (" A Chicago car for Chicago people")

A match!

#4 and #13 make a pairing.
Must I say why? You and I know.

Wendax

#3 and #6 make a pairing, too. ;)

Otto Puzzell

I believe these are both correct, but please be a good sport and tell us why they match.

I'm having some issues with my primary computer (where the answer key is stored). So, I can't say with certainty that you're correct. I hope to have it back online today.

I would have done anyway today, because the order principle I had in mind proved wrong, so that I have no idea about the order right now.

#4 is the Gregory, built in Kansas City. It matches with #13, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, pictured in Kansas City at Union Station.

#6 is the Geronimo, built in Enid, OK. It matches with #3, a Chevy Blazer in Enid. I think it is Enid, because of the grain elevators in the background (Enid having the most grain storage space in the whole USA).

Wendax

#12
#10 1908 Lincoln runabout, built in Lincoln, Illinois, goes with #9 Ford Mustang parking in front of 410 Pulaski Street in Lincoln, Illinois

João

Number #2 - El Reno Lake with number #8 - 1910 Pioneer Model 4-30 built in El Reno, Oklahoma?

Wendax

Sorry, but I think it is
Number #11 - El Reno, VW beetle after a tornado and #8 - 1910 Pioneer Model 4-30 built in El Reno, Oklahoma

That's right

That's wrong

The next pairing is #14, a 1904 St.Louis from St.Louis, Missouri, and #7 Cathedral Basilica Saint Louis in St.Louis.

That leaves #2 and #1 as the last pair.

#18

Then it must be #6 Geronimo from Enid and #11 VW after tornado in Enid

That's the right car, pair, and tornado.  ;)

The grain elevators on #3 are in El Reno, which makes it a pair with #8.

Wendax

Is #2 a Smith from #1 Topeka, Kansas?

That would put the pairs in the following order:

(12,5)
(10,9)
(14,7)
(4,13)
(2,1)
(6,11)
(8,3)

This would be a nice tour from Chicago to Oklahoma (following very roughly the eastern part of Route 66?).
