I am always curious about eastern European cars!

OK - good detective work!
I haven't been able to get my computer to open the second link you posted (probably either because there are too many pictures or - more likely - because some of them are so ugly my computer flatly refuses to show them!) so I can't tell if this puzzle should be merged..

I'll move it to solved for the time being until I find out otherwise.

It's probably down to the vagaries of translating Cyrillic script into Roman - perhaps whatever the Russian character was can be either 'u' or 'y'?
The publication I picked the photo from called it a Tryd by A. Kyryenko but it's not without its regular errors!

It's one of the common mistakes when transliterating from cyrillic, due to the fact that latin 'u' looks in cyrillic like 'y'. The same is with cyrillic 'p', which is latin 'r', cyrillic 'B' which is latin 'V' or 'W', cyrillic 'c' which is latin 's' and cyrillic 'H' which is latin 'N'
