Anything to do with the Corvair-based Ultra Van?

Post by: Otto Puzzell on January 12, 2011, 08:24:54 AM
No Ultra Van connection, but Corvair is on-target.

Victour?

Post by: Otto Puzzell on January 13, 2011, 03:49:44 AM
Not a Victour.

This is a one-off, using Corvair power. Built by a well-respected race car engineer. The parts you see are from an established builder of somewhat similar devices.

Looks like it could have been built from a late 40s Spartan travel trailer. Possibly 47/48 Spartanette Royal Manor.

It is a Spartan (I don't know the specific model)

Wendax and mymokke have supplied most of the information needed to solve this one - who will go home with the point?

Nope. This engineer was not so Corvair-centric.

OK .. Carrol Shelby?    BTW I much prefer the 65 RIV to the earlier exposed headlight series

Not Shelby. This guy founded a components company, vs. a builder/modifier of cars for series production and sales.

Right on. I had a '65. Fast car.
Also the rear end was cleaner too because the bumper housed the tail lamps.

While this vehicle had Corvair motive power, don't get dragged down by fixating on Corvair racing parts.

I don't want to seem like I'm just making guesses, even though I am, but it seems that Bruce Crower was a pretty hands-on type of guy...maybe he built it.

That's all I can do on this one too is just make guesses - rather not, but

EDIT; Sorry, somone else allready tried Isky.

Just for the helluvitt, here's a 'Vair powered Ultravan from '68.

None of them.

The performance parts company name was not the guy's last name.

Howard Johansen from Howard's Cams?
Title: Re: PAFW Puzzle #1827
Post by: Otto Puzzell on February 15, 2011, 09:42:37 AM
And we have a winner!

It's the Howard Johansen (Howard's Racing Cams) Motorhome, a converted Spartan trailer with 2 Corvair engines.
Title: Re: PAFW Puzzle #1827
Post by: Otto Puzzell on February 15, 2011, 09:45:27 AM
Wendax got the engine, mymoke got the vehicle, and Aaron65 got the builder. Since I can't give a third of a point to each, each gets 1 point.
