French, like Benjamin?
It's indeed French, but not a Benjamin.
Out of the shade back to light..
...to the highest level.
From a known manufacturer?
Obscure I guess. I stumbled on an unillustrated book article featuring this car. After I checked I only found this pic online showing the car in its entire shape. It doesn't look spectacular, but according to the source the technical stuff seems to be quite interisting.
I known it's not, but it strongly reminds me the Menasco Pirate:
but also a Donnet:
Similar, but it's not that.
The puzzle car is much smaller I believe, but it beats the Menasco on a specific detail...
And it's not a Donnet either.
It is the Vagova, built from 1924 to 1926 by Vareille et Godet at Levallois, Rue Chaptal, in very limited numbers. It was built as a race car, and what made it really unique is its six-cylinder engine, since it has only 747 cc (49,7 x 64 mm) and an overhead camshaft. The 40 hp engine even featured a desmodromic system.

:applause: Nicely done Wendax! You're unstoppable!
I only know of one start in Brookland's 200 miles race where it didn't succeed.
Well, I didn't mention that because Mr. Gray (starting number 50) didn't appear with his Vagova at the Junior Car Club "200" on
20 September 1924 at Brooklands. ;)
I've to check my source at home. More on Monday.. ;)
Quote from an online source:
QuoteIn 1924 it raced in the 200 miles from Brookland but didn't finish.
